Homosexuality and Internet
Hi. I'm a 22 year-old US male who recently just got offered a pretty good job in Qatar. For 1 full year I will have food paid for, travel paid for, and my salary paid tax-free.
However, I am gay.
Now, I have seen then threads discussing homosexuality in Qatar, however I have yet to see my concern addressed... has anyone ever been arrested for browsing homosexual content on the internet?
I am single and plan to remain so while I am over there just to avoid complicating things, but I would like to browse for such things daily, to include pornography.
Would this raise any flags? And if so, are there any ways to avoid flag-raising, such as (possibly) satellite internet?
Thanks for any and all help with this matter!
welcome 2 QATAR & QATAR LIVING..............
as long as u dont bother others u will be safe in qatar....
Unlike in US, you shouldn't disclose in public that you are a gay,, you might not experience a good reaction to it.
The sites you mentioned cannot be accessed unless approved by Qtel on your written request. Therefore, the monitoring shouldn't be there unless its from your work office. There should be several thousand clicks everyday trying to log in these sites. But P2P is used by many for this purpose as its not blocked.
The penalties would be only on any disrespectful action in public places or else caught for homosexuality anywhere.
all the best :)
Not really mate! only thing you need to get the approval from Qtel to open these sites i guess....
just live your life......
Learn how to use "proxies". Use Torrents, they aren't blocked. Don't tell anyone you're gay when you get here, unless it's people you trust or people you're sure wouldn't use it against you :)
any sites related to pornography, drugs, left or right leaning politics, basically non-mainstream ANYTHING sites are blocked here mate...so if you have provisions for this satellite internet business you mentioned, that's your only hope...& no it doesn't raise any flags 'cos the sites are blocked in the 1st place so the question of monitoring doesn't arise now does it?...good luck...
