Gosh! Maybe its a good idea to hold your sisters departure until you clarify this matter. Unfortunately all gov. offices are closed until 6th. October for Eid.

Anyway i hope someone in QL will be able to clarify and everything will be resolved in a good way. Good Luck!

Cruveck, I called the Philippine Embassy before posting this but sad to say, the person who handled my call there informed me that she does not know anything about that and gave me the number of our Labor Office which shall be opened on 7th October. I was trying to get some feedback from other people who may have encountered the same problem as I am preparing for the arrival of my sister on 01 Oct. under visit visa, hence the reason why this question was posted.

Errrrr.....why all the discussion on the matter? Just pick up the phone and call the Embassy. They will be in the position to answer with accurate details. Cheers...

coelecanth, if that is the case, that they would like all workers to go through POEA, then if it happens that this is true, it's like, they sugarcoated the issue regarding the direct Hiring policy. isn't it that it was a big issue before but due to the unrest of the OFWs, this was temporarily restrained. If this mater with the working visa is true, it's like hitting the aspiring Kabayans and OFWs at the back. i hope that this shall not be the case...

Belated happy Bday, i believe this issue was revive after the increasing number of pinoy stranded in Iran n Oman which makes a big headache for the embassy to support.

Technically, those under Visit Visa are NOT OFW, and are not registered. They are tourist. I think the government is pushing everyone to go thru POEA (the proper way) because of all the cases of maltreatment from employers. this way, we can avail of the speedy??? support from the government and the benefits of being an OFW. We'll find out soon...
