There is NO such thing as an illegal question, he can ask whatever he wants OPENLY, how else would he know.

As an answer to the question, no there is no such thing as an illegal visa, and freelance in general is illegal.

HOWEVER, as per new labour law, resident workers can work extra work after working hours if their employer allows it.
