Gay life in Doha?

Salam,

People I am asking a serious question here so please dont give me angry responses or send me abuse.

I want to know whta life is like for a gay man living in Doha. Im considering moving out.

I know that there are legal issues but does society generally turn a blind eye? Are there many gay ex pats and do gay men get together for dinner partys etc at each others houses?

What if I was to bring my partner over? Would my colleagues accept that my 'friend' is staying with me or would I be hounded?

Im not interested in enforcing the sterotypical hyper-sexed view of gay men so I am NOT asking about cruising-I just want a genuine picture of gay life in Doha.

Please share your thoughts.

Many thanks

If you are a gay and would like to live with your gay friend why are you coming to Doha or to the GCC where gay life is illegal.

Qatar is a fairly strict Muslim country; it is against the Muslim law

If you r real Muslim you should know that very well.

So don’t try to grow up such bad habit in Qatar and all over the world.

Hi there,

Well as a westerner it is very difficult to be "gay" in this society, but i agree with all the other ppl who answered your question. the "scene" here is very secretive and i would urge you not to tell the whole truth about your situation.

gays do not meet here in groups and i have been here over 2 years and it is very difficult to make contact with other like-minded individuals over here, since they are too scared that you might be CID.

to play it "safe" i would suggest that you keep everything under wraps and pretend to be a "normal hetro-sexual".

in the same breath, i have to add that there are MANY gay ppl here (expats AND locals! the funniest thing is that so many so-called qatari, muslims or middle eastern men have a guy as "friend" for fun - double standards!

hope this has given you some answers to your question and some insight into the situation

Qatar is a fairly strict muslim country. It is quite possible that you could live a normal gay lifestyle and never be caught, but why risk imprisonment? And bringing a gay lover over with you (aside from the questions of how to get residency) would only increase the chances of you getting caught. Why not take a job somewhere that is more open to your lifestyle?

It is against the law to live that kind of life in Doha, as you already know that. But as for the way they live, I'm sure they manage as long as they do not preach about it to others. I believe in respecting the laws of any country I live in, if I don't I leave and go somewhere else. But if you want to know if there are campaigns against people like, I’d have to say that no, Qatar is a progressive state and is going through a fast development on both economical and social levels. Having said that people will criticize what is different from the philosophy and believes they grow up with, it scares them and this applies in all societies.

And your name is Muslim man?

I personally have nothing against gay men - I actually have some gay friends, but I try not to get involved in that part of their life.

There are a lot of gay men in town - but I cannot speak out on their behalf as to how life is here for them.

But why are you gay? I always wanted to ask a gay person that. Why?

Dear

dont think so any one will give you good answer for that. all you could do is just get your friend here, take one room and you could stay with him as long you could chase the funny faces of people around you.

and incase if CID will caught you for some reason, then that will be the time for you to feel "WHAT IS THE LIFE FOR A GAY IN QATAR"
