Hello,
I created an account and took a credit card in the month of August 2012 with Doha Bank.
The bank did not activate SMS alert for online transactions and neither did they offer any opportunity of credit card fraud insurance either upon joining.
I had a credit card online fraud of more than QR 12,000 with a Doha Bank Lulu Credit card in August 2012. I lodged a complaint with the bank in writing and they have been investigating the case.
The fraud were flight tickets to Paris, Turkey, Saudi, Ireland, Phillipines, Kuwait etc. within a period of 10-12 days whereas all my passport pages were submitted as proof that I was not the traveller. The bank promised to investigate the case and come to a resolution through a write off and kept dragging on for months and months.
Finally, they came up and said that the management and the board of governors decided to reject my claim and it was not even officially informed to me. Just a casual phone call. In the meantime, they have charged me with month on month interest totalling to about QR 2000+. They moreover take a minimum 5% deduction of the outstanding amount on a monthly basis which they have been doing till date.
Now the bank overall due is about QR 21500 from which my genuine transactions are about QR 6400, the rest is just the fraud amount and the interest the bank charged for me not paying the amount during the period of investigation.
Now, I wish to try and resolve the case by settling my genuine transactions and getting a write-off for the fraud and interest but there is no help.
Can anyone make any suggestions? Is it worth visiting a lawyer? Any known lawyers. anyone aware of similar cases.
For any genuine advise/help, please feel free to contact me at 55526716.
Credit card fraud may be one of the things that will surely get you in jail. If you are to own or apply for a credit card, you should be very careful not to spend too much. You don't want to get in trouble like many other who were accused of credit card fraud. If you want to start or apply for a loan though, you could start with short term loan.
Just a few thoughts:
1- Try contacting Visa or Mastercard directly (there should be a Middle East office). I guess you can file a complaint with them directly.
2- The air ticket bought should be very easy to trace and fraudster should be easily identifiable, issuing company (Visa or MC) should know what to do.
3- IMO, there is no point in not settling your genuine charges made on the card. I believe you settle those to show the bank good faith.
4- It is my understanding that there is a division in Qatar police department for electronic crimes, I suggest you inquire from this department what can be done.
Good luck and hope ppl here will be able to shed light on what to do
