does a qatar job contract hold up in the uk
Hi there,
I had accepted an offer from a large m&e contractor in Qatar and was due to fly out end of this week from London.
I got a call today saying that they can not place me as they have lost a few projects.
I have signed a full contract of employment with them and have handed my notice with my last company in the UK so can any one advise if they are still liable for one months salary as per contract which is what would happen in the UK.
cheers
alan
Hi thanks for all the replies.
I have taken some advice from both UK and local (Dubai) lawyer.
looks like they are liable for the first months wage as they have terminated the contract, While fully understanding that i terminated my employment under UK notice periods and that they had 3 MONTHS to cancel!
But they are also trying to place me else where in the UAE so I will give them this chance and if no joy then may the letters fly!!!
kind regards
alan
If you signed the employment contract with a job agent in UK, the job agent could be held liable under the Agency Law which I believe is also being observed in UK. Qatar principals are normally represented by job agents overseas unless you are one of those classified as "Direct Hire".
These agents sign an Agency Agreement with foreign employers with provisions for joint and several liabilities in the event of breach of contract by the principal.
Any breach of employment contract by the employer/principal is subrogated to the agent for reasons aforesaid. Courts normally grant relief in the form of damages or lost opportunities brought about by the breach.
Beg for your job back and don't be so stupid next time.
According to my boss, job contracts from Qatar, don't even hold up in Qatar, so I don't think they will hold up in Britian, sorry.
I am so sorry for your lost job! If your contract says you are due compensation then it's worth a try, but standard British law will not apply here.
Even though you have signed a Contract with the company it can only be registered with the authorities nce you get here. Funny Regulations. So I not sure if this Contract will have any jurisdiction in the UK. Check with a lawyer anyway.
Dream on, maybe give Qatar a miss but good luck
Alan
Forget it, it would never happen.
