Dearness Allowance

With inflation rising and cost of living just going up, I suggest Government should introduce a percentage of salary as a variable. The variable should refelect the inflation. Back home in India, we have this as a Dearness Allowance and for sake of ease and compliance the company can link it to a commodity or a group of commodity and when the prices change for that commodities, your variable salary component changes along with that.

I suggest we link it with the House Rents here in Qatar ;-)

Is someone in the government listening???

I honestly cannot see too many companies being interested. It has been suggested previously (over 15 years ago) and no one was interested.

I doubt if prices will come down (possibly rents will....eventually) so what would be the good of an allowance?. Allowances can be removed. It would need to be added to the base salary but that of course would impact significantly on ESB which is calculated on terminal salary.

Well folks......

Guess it has gone off tangent........

Not interested in Tax myself or reduction of existing salary.......

My idea was that Government should introduce a new allowance to reflect the rising inflation........

u remember some time back govts across GCC raised salary to tide inflation... instead of a one off attempt it would be nice to have a consistent approach...

I hope this interests QL folks..

lol what utter rubbish. Different companies different rules.

QNB for example provides a special allowance to tackle the rate of inflation. QNB is a government entity.

The government can only recommend it to companies, doesn't mean companies have to comply.

Is a way of saving tax in India. It was introduced so that your entire salary wont be taxed and by splitting it into dearness allowance it gets taxed only to a smaller percentage. I dont think this should be introduced in Doha for 2 reasons- You dont have to pay any tax and because it will just be another means for people to ask for more salary and thus more expenses thereby increasin inflation like secguy said.

Bad idea...just leads to higher inflation. The more you earn...the higher other costs become. neverending circle.
