Critical issue, New Rent Law

Morning every body, I’d like to share this matter with all of you,

I’m renting an apartment from a re-renting company (not the owner) as most of cases in Qatar, according to the signed contract; the rent is for one year only ending in sept. 2008, the question is:

Do I have the right to renew the contract automatically for another year according to the new rent law even that I’m renting from the re-renting company, putting into consideration that the contract between the original owner and the re-renting company is for one year only too, ending at same date (Sept 2008),

In the contract the flat is described as a residential flat, (and it is a fully furnished, but this is not mentioned in the contract),

i have met a gye in the re-renting company and he said to me that i dont have the right to do that, is he right, i'm really feel sick because of this renting issue in Qatar.

I’ll appreciate your help, legal opinion will be grateful.

Thank you.

Poor tenant.. ;-)

You hit the head on the nail and this is the threatning point for all, the agent tells you you have two months notice unless you pay him another commission fee and the advised rent increase otherwise you are out on the street.

Would like to see how the Qatari government solves this one!!!

Thx guys for reply, but I think we need an opinion from some one with a practical experience with a landlord after the implementation of the new law.

As far as i know; you should make a new contract when it end, and it is not an automatic procedure :(

Yes you have the right to renew, however the landlord can refuse if he's given you notice.

I know it's sneaky, but try to call the landlord directly. If he doesn't have a contract with them (I know the agency said that but they might not), he might rent it directly to you at a cheaper rate.

If it's not mentioned then it should be added that it is fully furnished. I suggest taking photos of everything from day one because it helps. I learned that during my stay in England.

I didn't understand what right he said you didn't have. Many agents are liars and just want to escape from the law.
