Dear QL'ers
Kindly advice me with my following query.
I brought an HP laptop in Dec 2007. All seemed fine initially. However after a few months i started feeling that something was wrong with the battery as the laptop would heat up so badly that i had to switch it off for a certain time. This went on and now i can hardly use my laptop for may be 1 hour and i have to switch it off. the battery heats up so badly that it becomes impossible to work placing the laptop on the lap. Anyways, i recently received an email from HP stating that they were recalling the batteries issued to certain laptops and they provided me the serial number to track if my laptop was one of them. I was surprised to see that even my laptop was on the list. I visited Lulu Hyper Market and they diverted me to visit their workshop i:e Redington Nr Gulf Cinema. I visited the place. The people at redington now demand QR 450/- from me for replacing the battery since the warranty of my laptop has expired. I tried explaining them that i hadn't come to see them because my laptop had a problem but i came to them because they sold me a faulty laptop. The people at redington are very reluctant to change the battery and as such i need advice if Qatar has any consumer dispute court. Please advice.
i bought an hp pavilion dv5, after around 4-5 months the battery got dead. thank god i got replaces during the warranty period; i heard hp charger is costly.
i think my laptop is in one of the listed ones.
you purchased and used the laptop for nearly 3 years.
Complaining now in nonsense.
In the first place, I do not understand why people go in to purchase brands that do not belong to actual laptop family. HP as you mentioned is only good for printers and not laptops. There are so many professional brands like Dell and Acer. My advice is do not repair the HP laptop but purchase a new laptop i.e.> Dell or Acer. I suggest you go in for Acer 5735 or Acer 5740... the prices are Qrs. 2540/- and Qrs. 2890/- respectively. You can get them from Jarir Bookstores near Ramada signal.
consumer protection cell or courts are under establishing process.
You should talk to someone in Lulu to overcome this situation. Try to get someone in the Supervisory level and talk to him about your situation and they should help you. If you want to complaint in the Customer Protection Department they will ask for the warranty period and will not be able to help if the warranty is over. However if you are still interested to go through then you should visit the Customer Protection Department under the Ministry of Business and Trade located in West Bay Near Salam Plaza.
Why don't you try contacting HP direct giving all the details of the store and the problems you have encountered?
