City Centre's Awful Parking Ticket System

By dio220

Hello all dear Qatarliving members and all Qatar inhabitants:

I Just want to share an incident which was happen to me and of cource can happen to many of you as well in case of using City Centre's Parking Area,a  free place for parking in whole this years and suddenly just in afew months turned to a ticketing system which works awfully.

At 31.08.2011 Me and My wife spent 7 Hours and 15 minutes and we paid 58 QR !!!!! And when we asked the person incharge for any explanations for that HUGE COST he said rudely :This is City Center's  Parking System and YOU HAVE TO OBEY and PAY IT !!!!!

I Should mention that there was ( and still there is) no PRICE BOARD there to inform people about parking prices and also inside City Center any place haven't provided for this reason.

Now I as an ordinary Qatar inhabitant and also as a person who cares about Human rights Kindly asking you to leave your comments about above mentioned incident and similar cases that in my point of view are signs of INCREASING OF LIFE EXPENDITURE IN QATAR.

Regards

The only real negative aspect to this show is you may not like it as much if you've seen other cheap american idiot tickets shows. Though, most people who be there this show don't give the thought to mind that cheap bring it on the musical tickets the acts seem to be a bit obsolete.

In Bahrain's City Centre the parking is a 4-storey creation and is free... By the way beer in Bahrain's bars 30-40% cheaper than in qatar's ones :) but I still like Doha better than Manama...

You missed the bit about 'no return within 2 hours' - hey, make it 6 hours if you wish.

Sure, and they come on their break, move their car, and go back to their office once the "free" time has expired.

I stand by my original post.

As has been noted above - quite a few store car parks in UK realise that patrons object to paying a parking fee for a brief visit: their solution is to offer free parking for 90 minutes, then add a charge after that. One still has to take a ticket to prove time of entry to the car park. If you avail yourself of the free parking offered then you can not return within 2 hours - this stops people taking advantage of the offer provided and using the facility like a revolving door.

and of course TB.... as i said before and i will say it again and again everytime someone complains for CC parking: CC is not forcing anyone to visit them. you have other malls option. but if you still want to go to CC then do not come here and  complain about of how much you pay.... and this will not be the last mall to charge its parking....

No, the problem lies with the myriad of idiots who abuse and circumvent the system when ever that possibly can. and that does not only go for parking in CC. Just read QL....you'll see many who are trying to lie, cheat and circumvent. It seems some people are either too ignorant or selfish to follow the rules properly and therefore are the cause for suffering of those who are following the rules, as the rules get tightend everytime those morons overstep them. eh....waste of my energy...they will never change.

"Sorry but the comparison stands - parking was free in many cities/countries in years past because demand/usage/abuse of the privilege was low. As it increased the the pay for use system was implemented."

its a weak comparison. Airport never had parking problem but they wanted to make money so now they have implemented paid parking. since the only way to go back home is through airport so people have to catch the plane and not ride the donkey. if city center wanted to slove the issue of abuse parking they could have started with 2 hours free parking limit only and then pay for additional hour. Hapygoluckey statement is true  " happygolucky said This is just a case of ...

This is just a case of inefficiency, lack of vision passed on to others and may be to an extent satisfying ones greed. For me CC has failed in keeping their premises clean of the unwanted people and passed on the brunt to an ordinary customer"

There are other means to slove the bottle neck problem but corporates always turn to pay systems. thats where the problem is.

Why is this a shock to some? There have been posts about CC parking fees since I have been on QL - so not a new thing at all.You spent 7.5 hours in a shopping center??? Did you park there thinking your car was safe and then go off somewhere else?7.5 hours in CC?? What did you do?In the UK if you park all day - you get hammered just like CC.As nomerci says - some people did abuse CC and some are now paying the price.Avoid CC seems to be the order of the day :-)

A few always pay for the abuse of so many.....many people abused the parking garage  meant to be used by customers only....instead of shopping they went to work somewhere else. Now the customers( the ones who have not done wrong) pay the price...a principle very common here...not because of greed, but because of abuse and circumvention.

Apologize if I went too far. Just couldn’t control my frustration when I read the threads but you have to understand that you have to pay to play. Since you didn't see a price chart, you should've left immediately so please face your mistakes and do not blame it on the city center because a well respected mans owns it and there are certain verbal ethics to take into consideration when speaking against a business with a noble owner as such.

Sorry but the comparison stands - parking was free in many cities/countries in years past because demand/usage/abuse of the privilege was low.  As it increased the the pay for use system was implemented.

And what do taxes have to do with the discussion. This has to do with availability/ demand/and abuse of the previous "system".  In the past, you could park your car/chariot/camel/horse/donkey anywhere you wished - you can't now in Doha - where's your complaint about that?

This is just a case of inefficiency, lack of vision passed on to others and may be to an extent satisfying ones greed. For me CC has failed in keeping their premises clean of the unwanted people and passed on the brunt to an ordinary customer. Same methodology could be used to nab the unscrupulous people working in nearby towers and who park their cars in CC parking.... keep a tab on cars regularly parked for more than 5 -6 hrs and then fine them by say QR10,000/- or even upwards... is it difficult, I don't think so in these days and times when technology can do wonders.

because nowadays we can easily find a space for parking. Confident enough and at ease that our car is safe from culprits. Unlike some incident a few months ago in open parking space in Villagio & Lulu where they found some cars forcely opened to find out that their things were stolen. Before when parking fee was not yet implemented, workers nearby CC used to park their cars from early morning till evening which is not fair, occupying those spaces which is supposed to be for customers only. Let's just give and take or else find a space outside to spare you from a contribution and walk or as everyone is suggesting, it's a matter of choice coz nobody is forcing anyone. You can go to other malls where later or sooner will implement the same thing. "''it is more blessed to give than to take'"

they have advertised the price list  - I believe the new system is much better.if you are spending the whole day, then you must be watching movies, having lunch, shopping so the charge is realistic. On average people spend 2 hours max. This will stop people from just parking and hanging out there.

Charging QR10 per hour after 3 hours is too much! I went there one time and i was also shocked when i saw my parking ticket. I told myself that i would never go back to City Centre unless there is no choice or  it is badly needed. :)

This city just needs to get with the times and start implementing multi-story car parks like the rest of the world. This is also crucial downtown in the business area. The reason Citicenter was always packed was downtown office workers would use it and leave next to nothing for actual mall customers.

Villagio isnt any better with their terrible layout. It is damn near impossible to exit on a Thurs / Fri evening and it gets to the point of traffic jams within the parking lot. It has to be one of the most poorly planned lots I have seen in the country.

If they ever come up with multi-story parking garages, they'd be surprised how much space they can save. Not to mention the added benefit of having naturally covered parking for the vehicles in the summer.

Who knows, maybe another 5-10 years and we will see whats been the norm for the rest of the world for decades.

You need to get CARREFOUR stamp on parking ticket to qualify for free parking for 2 hours and this the carrefour person does not tell you or does any board advise you to get the parking ticket stamped . Next the cinema hall ticketer has to stamp your parking ticket to get 3 hours free parking . After all this , it upto the person who sits at the EXIT to provide you free parking or charge you .

I was there with family for 4 hrs shopping , they charged me QAR 18 and did not get carrefour to stamp parking ticket as i was unaware of it .

After above , started parking opposite citicenter in FREE PARKING ..........cheers

If you show movie ticket, you will get 3 hours free.

The parking fee is fair compared to fee charged in any part of the world, especially dubai.

actually as what lhegs is saying its true that they have posted the fees before as per the number of hours you stayed inside the mall at the same time if you have watched a movie or do your grocery in Carrefour, you can present the receipt of your purchase or your movie ticket to the information counter and they will adjust your parking fee amount. one time i paid QR 60. anyways, no one is forcing us to go there. if you do not want to pay a parking fee, we can always have other options and choices to go to where its not needed to pay for a parking. so, its a matter of choice.

Another way to make money. Next thing you know there will be toll gates tax on the road for cars and public parking will be have meter. After that salary will be taxed as well. Well these things are common in the west but certainly they are surprising to people who have lived in Gulf for many years. Its not fair to compare the living environment of one's owen country to feel better just becuause they are used to paying taxes and car parking. Inshort..City center parking fees should be revised due to high price list since there are not enough family entertaintment areas to begin with so people are left with little choices.

Actually they have posted already in advance last July about the implementation of parking fee so it's not really surprising, but at least, it should be flat rate. Parking fee discount can be avail by letting your receipt have stamped in information center.City Center Parking Fee1st 1 - hour   - 2 qr      2 - hours - 5 qr      3 - hours - 8 qr      4 - hours - 18qr      5 - hours - 28qr      6 - hours - 38qr...... and so on

How is this in any form or fashion a human rights issue?

Leaving that silly statement aside - have you made a formal complaint, documenting all your issues with dates and times IN WRITING to the City Centre management office (requesting a written response in return) or are you like the rest of the whingers, just complaining to us (most of whom LIKE the new system because we can now find a parking space)?

As for comparing one city to another, yes it is a reasonable comparison because the reason for the high cost is because of the lack of parking and because of people in other buildings who abused it when it was free.  I don't pay the same amount in my hometown as I would in cities like London, New York or Rome because the demand is not as high or constant. In Doha, demand is high at City Centre, therefore they charge a rate that the market will bear, and obviously a large number of people are willing to pay it.

I believe the parking fees are very reasonable and avoid that the parking is being misused.  Anyway, in Europe I am used to pay QAR 30 per hour easily !

This is purely an adjustment phase for customers and I think it's working well. I rarely went for lunch there, now that I can park at lunchtime, I go more often.GM Serret, this is also standard practice in most carparks around the world. You lose your ticket, you get charged for a whole days parking. Unfortunate, but occassionally happens. What would you have been 'happy'paying for your error.....for all they know, you've been there all day! Your fault, not the system.dio220, I fairly sure I've seen toll boards in there, but how often do you spend 7 hours in a mall! Wow...However, I'm sure the money spent in that time on shopping, food and entertainment was far more that 58QR. In a Central London carpark you'd pay closer to 300QR for that amount of time!!!I haven't met anyone personally, who doesn't believe this is a great addition to CC. It doesn't seem to deter that many shoppers from what I can see, and 2-5QR to pop in for some shopping is not enough to make me drive to Landmark or Villaggio. Still some teething problems, but what new business doesn't have these....especially in Qatar!

well i guess....they should consider the fact....city centre is huge and multifunctional place....not some grocery store ......

well man I am sorry for you paying that much. But a lot of people who go to City center for those in and outs are now able to find parkings for less than 10 riyal. Before, the whole city used to park in that center even when they worked in other buildings. spending 7 hours in a mall should not be a very common practice.. so 60 riyals once in a blue moon should be fine i think... this is like 2 beers cost... NYC parking is 20 USD/hour sometimes..
