Attention all Karwa taxi riders

dpatrick
By dpatrick

Have you ever wondered why riding different Karwa taxis for the same destination every day gives you different meter readings for the fare?

That's because some Karwa taxi drivers are cheating you. Instead of setting the tariff at "1," which should be the case for destinations within Doha, it is set at "0", which is for outside Doha and makes the meter go faster. You can see this number in the far ri.ght corner of the meter

I know this issue has been raised here many times before, but I'd like to once again call attention to this for the benefit of all Doha newcomers who are regular taxi riders.

So the next time you ride a Karwa taxi for a destination within Doha, make sure that the tariff is set at "1," instead of "0".

taxi service competitors.. cause Karwa drivers are annoyance,

some of them make you dizzy as they drive like car racers

then suddenly gone to a halt, tsk!

Al Ghazal Co. should also branch out over here in Doha..

Instead of waiting for karwa and dealing with driver, why don't you use Careem? Its a great service with an app. It allows you to book a car online or using the app. They will send you a professional driver and you can pay by credit card.

Try it: careem.com

Doha police is quiet efficient.. Call them, Report the accident, and they will reach with in two hours from the Police station which is at the distance of 2 km from the accident site...

If you defo know what the trip should cost and they demand more, just give them the amount you know is right and get out of the cab.

don't accept to turn off the meter unless u know how much the travel will cost, and agree (ILLEGALY) with the driver on a smaller fee.

I didn't know about this one!

you've also got to check they turn the meter on at all: I cannot tell you the number of taxi drivers who just refuse. Usually, when I say no, I'd really prefer the meter, they will turn it on, but I've had several who just flat out refuse to turn it on, at all. i've gottten out of the cab if this happens, but when you're driving down the highway and they're refusing. . . you're stuck. Now, I understand these guys make a shockingly low wage, and I wouldn't mind going off meter if they weren't flat out greedy about it: I know how much trips cost, thanks, so I'm not going to give you QR50 for a ride that's usually QR12. Any advice on how to deal with it when they're refusing to budge on a price like that? What can you do other than just pay it and fume?

the other one that I've noticed lately is cabs picking you up in town, at malls etc, and then when you reach your destination they claim they are 'airport taxi' and demand the extra QR25 they'd charge from the airport. What is THAT about? If they're airport cabs, surely they should be labelled and shouldn't be picking up from, say, Villaggio? Anyway, keep a look out for this!

spybot: SPOT ON!!

this is the question: IN doha or OUT of doha?

some will argue that villageo is not in doha, im slal, rayyan also out of doha since they're out of doha's municipal juridiction!!

to know, they say the D-Ring is the boundary between In and Out of Doha. and in fact, there is signs reading WELCOME TO DOHA at the immigration r/a going toward madinat khalifa.

So many are criticising the Karwa drivers cheating the public and not one from the management has convinced the public that they would look in to it or to come forward with specific complaints etc., come on karwa, break the silence at least now and set right before 2022 starts.

I hope no one suffers heart attack out of that difference! If it's worth your time, all you have to do is report it. Who knows, Karwa make a positive move. (wink and wish). Lol!

Also there are some drivers, they paste black stickers;

Hence 0/O will be partially covered it looks like 1/I;

Now i take taxi regularly at 34QR; one day it came to 49QR; i was shocked .....

I had to fight with a Karwa Driver; he was using O in the trip ..

Karwa Drivers with Red tagged ID Card = Rental Drivers; they have licence to do all nonsense it seems ...

take the body number of the taxi. and tell the driver that u'd report their refusal to bring u to ur destination.

never had this kind of problem.

i always pay the same amount. of course if the traffic congestion is bad than other days I pay more

just a friendly advise... have an eagle eye and look at the meter when you're one of the karwa riders.

By tomultra• 15 Mar 2012 22:06
tomultra

once you're inside the taxi, try to inspect or visually check the meter coz some of this drivers dont stop to cheat.... you thought the taxi meter is setted at "I" when in fact it is actually setted in "O" because they have partly covered it with a black tape...

Can we also complain to the management if a taxi driver refuses to take us to our destination because he simply

thinks that there is heavy traffic on our route?

I have experienced being refused many times because my destination is not in the taxi driver's list of 'preferred routes'. (It's not even outside Doha!)

By simplecomplex• 15 Mar 2012 21:13
simplecomplex

You can just tell the karwa driver that your destination is INSIDE DOHA and they won't dare put it on 0.

@dpatrick That's a very valuable information as most of us will have to ride a taxi many times during our stay in Qatar. I go to work by taxi every day and I have been really baffled by the different fare rates I get with the same distance covered. Now I know how to deal with it. Again, thanks.

Just Right down the Taxi Number & Report it to Karwa, I am sure they will pursue it!!!

But It is a "Must" to Right Down the Taxi Number Always...
