40k R/month sufficient?

Hi

I am looking at a 40k / month job offer with medical but no other allowances.

I would want to move out with my family - wife, 2yr old and 4 month old.

Would this be enough to support them with a good standard of living, 4 bed apartment in a nice family friendly area with good facilities for the family on site, the kids in a nursery a couple of days a week, a car (preferably SUV as this is what we have at home) and a cleaner a couple of days a week.

Also - I've read about annuities and gratuities at the end of contract - is this actually in the law?

Thanks in advance.

Steve

Vic - he is not getting accomodation - the only thing provided in addition to his salary is medical, which is required by law anyways.

is sufficient for a family and depends on what percentage you want to save every month.

Poor offer for an expat. Most off shore hires get housing provided or an allowance, annual return tickets to their home country for all family members, medical, education allowance (very important for you in future as the better schools are very expensive), often a relocation allowance as well.

A decent 3 bedroom apartment will run you at least 10 - 12k/month at a minimum. An SUV will cost you a min of 2k/month probably more (loany payment). Food and other household supplies, probably closer to 2K than not depending on your tastes and requirements.

The 40k would be OK if you were getting all the other benefits listed in the first paragraph.

Some Indians (sadly though) with Indian passport seem to also make QR80k plus/month...but obviously they are an aberration...:)

Oh CD, it must be just us Aussies that make 80k plus. Well we need a good drink allowance before we will come

Looks like you didn't ask for advice on QL before accepting the job here. Same for your other western co-workers else you all would be enjoying nothing less than QR80K/ month...:) And this is for an out of univ fella. Got experience, build up QR10K for each year of it. Any add ons you can negotiate is only a plus...:) Recently read, QR 40K is just enough for a single male westerner.

OP's profile says he is from UK so seems he means Riyals by 'R'...:)

Reading on QL what a westerner should get and what not, guess QR40K is too less. QR80K sounds better, but I may still be stating less. A 4 bed apt in a nice area (that would be in West Bay) itself would be around 25-35K to meet western standards.
