Technological Development in Qatar

Qatar is undertaking rapid development of all fields. Technology is one field in which the disparities between Qatar and the West are most obvious.

The Qataris are generally wealthy and to some extent educated. This means that the indigenous population has made a rapid jump to being internet competent. The same cannot be said for the majority of the rest of the immigrant population who have come from 3rd world countries to provide basic services at marginally better rates than they would be able to do at home. Most skilled work in the country is provided by foreign contractors who do their work and then go home to enjoy their spoils.

It strikes me that this is holding back the general development of the economy as the two tier system divides the technologically competent 1st worlders here on short term contracts and the technologically underdeveloped 3rd worlders who are in fact the majority of the population and generally speaking the only ones who are here to stay.

It is because immigrants are only allowed to move here to supply existing needs without much thought for future needs that the economy is so reliant of government spending. The only real inflow of cash to the local economy comes from rent paid by foreigners and pay to public workers from the government.

I'm sure that in due course there will be a jump in technology here but in the mean time the disparity remains.

How can the educated 1st worlders assist in the technological development of Qatar as a nation?

Dude where do you get all that anger from? Can't be healthy.

I don't claim to have the answers and I'm not trying to be arrogant. All i'm saying is that having seen the mistakes made by the west maybe they can be avoided here.

Got no problem with anyone from anywhere but experiences differ. Going through the crash of the last few years was an education.

Well... I'm not from the 1st world education but for me, technological advancement in general & not only here in Qatar should focus on environment friendly innovation. Like in architecture there's what you call green architecture & by using that concept a building can achieved sustainability even though there are more factors concerned but for the sake of the argument let's just concentrate on green architecture. For example a building with this kind of design concept will provide ways on conserving energy by using natural light ventilation, passive cooling & etc... thus limiting energy consumption which in turn creates extra budget that can be utilize either for maintenance or extra man power but of course depends on the client...

That's a genuine concern. But the first step should come from the government itself as Qatar is just in the nascent stage of global integration and huge leap in technological innovation is just a day-dream

Start by fixing their own economy... This global recession which mostly caused by the 1st worlds helped this chain reaction of set backs so better start there then help Qatar or just add to supply existing needs without much thought for future needs that the economy is so reliant of government spending... Just saying...

What answer do you expect from a public forum like this in which the majority are from the 3rd world?
