sexual orientation of expat workers

genesis
By genesis

Dr Mohamed Abdul Alim, a senior psychiatrist, said that firms and recruitment agencies in Qatar should consider the sexual orientation of workforce when recruiting from India.
“It was shocking news for us that Delhi high court has legalised gay sex. The centre is not interfering in the internal affairs of any country, but it is our mission to preserve values of our society and protect it,” Dr Abdul Alim, who is also the director of programmes at the centre, told Arrayah Arabic daily.
He also noted that the local health institutions should be given a role to screen the sexual identity of expatriate workforce.
“As long as Qatar’s labour market is heavily depending on the expatriate Indian workforce, the establishment of the sexual identity of workers as a heterosexual should be a further condition for recruitment,” he added.
He also warned against what he called the “social acceptance of gay sex”.
“We do not encroach on others’ rights, but it is our right to guarantee that such social acceptance taking place in other countries would not affect our youth here. If we kept silent about the issue, homosexuality would one day be an alternative and acceptable lifestyle,” he added.
The Al Awin Centre, which was opened in May, seeks to deal with the behavioural and sexual deviations among youth by offering them counselling or even receiving them for treatment.

another "dr" with a medical degree most likely gained from a dodgy back-alley "med school" in Egypt or Pakistan or somewhere equally dodgy...if he had half a brain & a sprinkling of common sense he'd know the truth & not say anything about it...i'm no shrink but is it any surprise @ all that so many gulf arab men are homosexual?...note i said homosexual NOT gay,by orientation they're straight but years of separation from the opposite sex has prevented them from being able to develop any sort of normal, platonic relationship with members of the opposite sex,by the time they get to their late teens, early 20's,the hormones are raging, just like with any human being,IRRESPECTIVE of nationality or religion,to put it very bluntly, they need to put that pecker somewhere,so up a clean shaven, girly kind of guy's backend it goes, they get used to it & enjoy it,most of 'em actually end up bi,as they do get married & produce a brood & all but of course wifey doesn't know he's doing lil' thai boys up the wrong end in patpong when he's supposed to be on a "business trip"...so pray tell, how exactly do frustrated workers from the sub-continent who might bugger each other because they're frustrated NOT because they're gay in their camps in the boondocks(read industrial area) affect the "lifestyle of local youth"...yo "doc",if you're reading this,if you let your men & women develop normal, platonic relationships with the opposite sex as they're growing up,you might not have so many young local arse bandits...don't blame frustrated labourers who in most cases AREN'T even gay, what an idiot...

I don't think so Gypsy.

Imagine if they sent home all the males giving 'special massages' at salons - who would complain?

As I've said before, Doha is crawling with gay guys because they serve a purpose. There are plenty of local guys here who WANT them.

It would be like trying to get rid of alcohol or prostitutes - it wouldn't be the ex-pats who would complain the most, and ensure that the decision is overturned.

The power already exists to arrest and deport homosexuals, but you can find them on everywhere, working in every industry.

Homosexuality was removed from the DSM in 1986, as the majority view of the profession was that IT'S NOT AN ILLNESS!

That isn't to say that members of sexual minorities are free of seperate mental illness, indeed the social stigma from people like this idiot, I mean 'psychiatrist', are probably what causes gays and lesbians to seek 'help' in the first place.

I'd be willing to guess that they would all be much happier if you just left them in peace, Dr Mohamed.

To be honest I don't understand why this needs to be such a big issue - what do people propose exactly on doing if they find out someone's gay? There are gays all over the world (including in Arab countries) - so what do people propose should be done to them? Assigning this to just Indians is a silly idea becuase it makes it seem like the problem just lies in India. Perhaps there are just more important things to be concerned about rather than fannying about what tickles one's fancy. Besides, considering that we don't spy on the goings-ons of heterosexual couples here I don't see why we should start spying on the homosexuals around - and the gays that are resident in Qatar don't exactly exhibit themselves and neither does it affect their work.

Who is this moron?

So basically the reasoning is that because gay sex was legalised in India, Qatar needs to be careful about hiring Expats from India?

Well, since gay sex is legal in pretty much all of the modern world, then should all expats from the US, UK, Europe, etc etc be checked too?

And in any case I can't see any credible reasoning that hiring gay workers will make it normal or acceptable.

If you boil all this down it comes to this:

"Gay Qataris are only gay because of the evil foreigners."

If this idiot, I mean psychiatrist, is running a public health policy center, you really need to wonder who is funding this, where the graduates are coming from, and why no one with half a brain wasn't hired.

OK. I can possibly understand the issue of "protecting society". I even agree that there should be mandatory and periodical testing for HIV, but how can local health institutions "screen" the sexual identity of expatriate workforce ?

The main problem is that many Expats may not be homosexual by nature prior to coming here, but can and do engage in homosexual acts when living for long periods in close proximity to the same sex..
