Ramadan working hours: Article 73 of labour law
We are working for a very reputed company in Qatar. Our Contract has conditions like 10 hrs duty (maximum)as we have no provision for compensation for extra working hours. Also contract is silent about Ramadan working hours.
Our company is arguing that legally all such contracted people should work like normal days in Ramadan.
It means fasting people are asked by this reputed company to stay 10 hrs in office. We have to spend extra 2 hrs in travelling/driving as well.
My question is do article 73 of labour law applies regardless of contracts we sign or contract should have mentioned everything even Ramadan working hours?????
according to qatar labour law, 6 hours are during randan as normal hours againt 8 hours. no one could chalange or go against, if you work after 8 hour company will pay OT. You could complain to labour dept. (just put a complain with request not to show your name) i am sure there will be positive result.
As per the law there should be less hours of work i agree
however the government has a dead line to complete projects so what you mean is that these people should start working
Sometimes you need to think on behalf of what the company has to face put your self in their shoes
YOU ARE however entited for an overtime as per the LAW incase you work more.

Arguing in such matters mostly doesn't help. You might end up loosing a job or loose image.
You should discuss it in private or in written with your supervisors or directors.
I am sure they can make exceptions for those who fast during Ramadan, since they won't be wasting time on lunch or any coffee drinking, smoking etc.
The company should not give this right to all staff, because not all do fast during Ramadan. This is maybe why they refused it on your first attempt.
I would advise you to talk in private.
Somewhere in your contract it should state that Qatar Labour Law shall prevail / be followed.
