I have got a job in Qatar. The work Visa has the profession mentioned as "Consultant". Is it a good profession or shall i request my employer to change my Profession to "Engineer"?

Zainab, I got the call through linkedin directly. The HR contacted me and that's how all the procedure started. I don't think religion plays any role here. Though in some cases it might be true. In my case, all the interviewers and HRs were arabic and i did not find any discrimination being an Indian. Please don't be disheartened. Update your linkedin profile and increase your connection base based on your domain. You can also try through job portals such as naukrigulf etc. Hope this helps!

Zainab: There are some factors here that are more important than your qualification and experience that count when getting selected for a job. Your nationality, even the region from where you come from in your country counts. For example, if your are from Kerala or Tamilnadu or Andhra in India and the employers are from the same place, you can be almost sure of landing a job. It is the same thing with the Filipinos. Religion to which you belong also plays a role. I am stating these from first-hand experiences as I have gone through all this.

Having said that, don't lose hope and keep on trying. There are some employers in the field who do stand on a higher moral ground and they may consider all your merits and appoint you. The competition is no doubt tough.

Satpathy, You start your job , then only think about the family matters.

Correct, But once i get my residence permit, I should be able to get her with a Family Visit Visa which can be extended for 6 months. Post that, as you said, i will have to show my 6 month bank statement to get the family visa for my wife.

Frankly, I am not sure of that but I guess that should not be a problem. Anyways, you may not be able to get your wife here for six months (some say four) as you will be required to submit six months bank statement showing your monthly salary is QR 12000 (not sure it could be 10K) or above. During this period of time you can have the profession in your ID changed to engineer should you get to know "Consultant" does not come in the family visa category. Having said that, I believe this profession does fall in the family visa category.

Thanks Bro... With Consultant as profession, will i have any issues while i apply for a visit/family visa for my wife later?

That is the way here. The visa says "Consultant" because that may be the visa available to your employer. Suggest, you take the job and have the profession changed later to that of "Engineer" on the presentation of certified and attested degrees and certificates. It many cases it hardly makes a difference.
