Qatar Labour Law does not discriminate. 6 hours for ALL.

We received an internal memo from administration that specifies that all Muslims are to only work 6 hours (and if not possible, overtime to be paid for the hours exceeding the 6 hours) plus they get paid extra to cover Fitr meals if on duty, while non muslims are to work their normal shift hours. Seems a bit unfair especially when no compensation is given or acknowledment and arrangements for us to celebrate Christian holidays during Easter or Christmas. Before anyone jumps on the bandwagon... yes I know we are "guests" here and if we don't like it.....blah di blah di blah.... I'm just saying.

Great news Brin. Send those Auditers over here :o)I reminded my GM yesterday and he just shrugged his shoulders. It's his name on the CR and him who'll wind up in prison.

There was an article I think yesterday in the Peninsula that said they were doing suprise audits on private companies to make sure the 6 hour rule is enforced.

My colleague's friends company just had an audit yesterday and they were issued a warning letter.

So it is happening.   Companies are just trying to make the slaves work harder.

i think there is a hotline of the ministry of interior where all this can be reported... to and sooner or later action will be taken .... worth a try ... just hide your identity :)

I heard today from Radio that UAE is taking strict action on the Companies who are asking their Employees to work more than 6 hours in Ramaddan without overtime (150%). They will impose a fine of 10000 Dirhams and will stop the recruitment facilities of new Employees. It was not strict in UAE till last year and now the law is strict for every one irrespective of the religion. They have provided telephone numbers to inform the Authorities if someone is breaking this rule as it is not possible for them to physically check.

So, thus this means that the Labor department of Qatar is very weak... They should make necessary action with this kind of opportunist company. I am so upset and dismay with my company.

Many companies are owned by someone who is part of the authorities. That's why they don't (want to) catch them!

Baldrick is right, you're still lucky among others. i can't imagine why some companies here are not respecting Ramadan timings, what more they let their employees work more over ... and over time without pay.and why the respective authorities is unable to catch those companies??

You are lucky to get that. Some companies expect you to work a full day for no extra pay.
