Need help on contract issue

hello everybody!
I need legal advice on an issue with my new employer
I arrived in qatar a few days ago from spain.
I have been hired by a company (I worked in the past for this company) and we agreed on a salary, allowance, and the detail of employment and a contract duration for 6 months. All the details have been discuss by phone only.
I arrived in Qatar 12 days ago and start to work,
A few days after they asked me to sign the contract with a salary 40% lower than the salary promised. These contract will just be signed by me, and not by the managmer, what make it, not really valid.
They also told me they don't want to apply for any visa, what make me in a very uncomfortable situation.
After discussion with the manager, he simply told me that If I am not happy with the terms, I can leave (I will have to pay for the air tickets back to my home county, and I will probably not be paid for the work I achieved so far!)
The situation is very tricky as I know qatar authorities can be pretty though and I don't know anybody in this countrywho can help me.
Need legal advice
Thanks

Still not convinced with your naiveness. But one thing is clear i you go through proper cahnnel company will be balck listed. But i sensed you do not want that too as you are comfortable to work with them.So now ball is in your court either make managment to understand that you are worth of slary more or be happy with what they are offering. Now you signed and legal is that.Human greed is much higher among entire animal kingdom.

Thanks for your informations, all these replies have been very usefull to me.

So far I havn't sign anything!

I worked for this company for years on freelance basis (I am consultant),and I always get paid the same rate.

I might be able to convince them to apply for a 3 months business visa. just wondering if it is really legal to work with it!

What I don't want is to work on a tourist visa, and be in an illegal situation!

I don't know what kind of problem I would face?

Otherwise, I will have to leave the country and make sur this company is blacklisted.

Thanks

My sympathies, but please know:

1. Without any document to prove what you say was the offered salary, you would take a long long time (unsuccessfully) to convince any governmental authority.

2. Best way is to try locate & involve the person who confirmed the offer to you on phone in this negotiation with your management.

3. With an original contract duration of just 6 month, I do not think that they ever planned a 'Residence Permit' (RP) for you here; so forget about them applying for visa

4. Most companies, just make the employee sign the contract and keep the documents in records, without employers stamp. You can always ask for your copy (its a rule) and you can ask them to register the contract in case you are that particular.

5. If you are not comfortable with your pay package and if you cannot negotiate an increase, the best option would be to leave without putting in more losses. Forget about travel tickets, as for that you have to put in the contract specified time period of work to deserve that. Dont count much on getting your salary for the period worked here as all companies do have a notice period for employee resignation. If you serve the notice period ( 1 month, I think) you are eligible for the salary of these periods, else forget & try get on the first flight out.

Hmm, I would have signed before I came or at least gotten an offer letter. If you started work without a contract and they offered you less there isnt really any proof of that.

You also cant work here on a visit visa, nor is it legal for the company to make you pay your own visa fees. If you are here on a business visa you can work but your time here is limited. If you are on a business visa longer than a month (not sure if the time period has changed or not) you will need an exit permit to leave.

well, option 1. if you used visit visa you have a remaining days to try apply in another company if you want to remain here, use your remaining days.. option 2. leave the country. :)

if i were you, cut the losses, get out from Qatar a.s.a.p, as far as the company havent sponsor you, you can leave the country without exit permit.
