Are there any regulations related to Labour Camps in Qatar, defining the minimum basic requirements? Like how many persons can be accomodated in a room based on sper quare foot basis, or quality of food and food blende, potable water provision, general hygiene, pest control frequency, toilet cleaning etc.

Hi,

I was wondering if you can be more specific as to where these camps are in industrial area. I would highly appreciate that.

Thanks,

Hussein

Its not practical, the clients will approach us to set a labor camp for 500 persons, we will set and handover it to the client as per regulations. Once we handover the camp they start to keep additional persons in each rooms, after 1 or 2 months if we visit the camps. There will be more than double, if we will ask client will inform us its temporary arrangement till getting another property and they will put new offer for labor camps. We will submit new proposal by believing there words, they will be keep on refusing the our proposals by telling some reason, this process will continue for another 2 or 3 months, submitting proposals. This will waste our valuable time and money so now a day we are not caring that much in this issue after hand over the property.

......not to set up labour camps if they cannot keep to the specifications given by the Ministry of Labour & Human Rights Commission Office....just note that Labourers are human beings like you and me.....give them what they deserve after a hard n long days toil.

....U listed out so many additional benefits for workers...PLEASE EVERYBODY NOTE --

1) Health Card QR.100/- per worker per annum (which is issued only after their RP is stamped and ID Card issued. Till then if unfortunately the worker takes ill all private medical expenses are to his personal account i.e. any time nothing less than QR.200 to QR.300/- from his monthly wage of QR.540 - QR.600 per month)

2) For the food the workers pay between QR.100 to QR.150 per month (some exceptions with some decent companies where food is on house)

3) Insurance u talk about WORKMEN COMPENSATION INSURANCE

..which is dirt cheap...say QR.2 - 3 PER WORKER PER MONTH

4) transportation where workers have to wait for hours both to & fro and vehicles are not air - conditioned imagine will you sit in these kind of buses in this SCORCHING SUMMER.

YES rentals everywhere are increasing and so are the project cost and the bidded price.....so why not benefits passed on to the workers ???????

AFTER ALL WE DON'T GET LABOURERS TO TORTURE AND MURDER THEM HERE....

sadly there are no regulation, no limits to the no of ppl in a room. Inshort the government bodies here are merely interested in their megaprojects and their construction and are least bothered toward the well being of the poor workers who actually make their dreams a reality with their sweat and toil! pathetic!

My company is specialized in setting labour accomodation, when we stsrted our operation we was strict in the Ministry regulations, but soon we realize that its not practical in Qatar conditions. In Ind. area avearage room rent is QRs. 2250, for furnishing and AC will cost some additional. water and electr charges will come extra. so just think how much a company can spend for a worker in there accomodation.

please not that food expences, medical, insurance, transportation expences will come additional.

Its happy that still some good companies providing very good accomodation to there labours.

.......it is indeed sad it is only becoz of these construction labourers and skilled workers things move at work sites and it moves in a big way but this lot of the work force has always suffered and ill-treated, is suffering and being ill-treated ...and in the coming future it will be made to suffer more.

Some of these construction companies (small companies as well the so called INTERNATIONAL INC. COMPANIES) doing big projects for Qatar Petroleum and Qatar Foundation are found doing this nonsense with their workforce...there is a limit of ill-treatment to enumerate a few --

1) 12 - 18 workers / labourers accomodated in this 10 X 12 Room ...all on bunker beds...

2)Mattresses which are worn out and become like bed sheets

3) very limited baths n toilets for the workers ....so they

are forced to get up early morning at 2.30 Am onwards n line up for their morning routines b4 they get into their transport bus

4)buses are not air-conditioned....:-(

5)they got to carry their lunch tiffins and this scorching summer heat the food does not remain

6)the cooks are like idiot chefs (never seen a onion in life and brought in as a cook / asst. cook) and to add to it their taste and style of living does not match with majority (80 to 90%) workers life style ...for instance just imagine a malayalee so called cook / asst. cook catering to the Rajasthani and punjabi workers....ALL A BIG WASTE!

7)...No transport provided for medical clinic visits....

Camp boss forces the sick worker to go to the Work Site on the pretext that Time Keeper will provide transport to go to the Medical Clinic...whereas the Time Keeper sends the sick worker back to the camp .saying when u were not well..why y came to site. O-(

...and so many things...

I SINCERELY URGE THE RESPECTED AND REPUTED CLIENTS LIKE QATAR PETROLEUM AND QATAR FOUNDATION AS WELL AS THE LABOUR DEPARTMENT AND THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION TO LOOK INTO THIS ON A PRIORITY AND SEND IN THEIR WORK INSPECTORS TO PERSONALLY CHECK ON THE FATE OF THE WORKERS.......FOR I BELIEVE WE DON'T RECRUIT UNSKILLED & SKILLED WORKERS HERE TO GET KILLED IN QATAR.
