job change rules

sunny side up
By sunny side up

I am an Indian Petroleum engineer with an MBA from europe, and 5 years of work experience. I have been offered a job as Business development manager, for the oil and gas division of a qatari firm.
salient features of the offer are:
1. indefinite contract
2. Basic salary - 8000 QAR/m
3. Transport allowance - 1500 QAR/m
4. telephone allowance - 250 QAR/m
5. company provided furnished 2bhk appartment

i have a feeling that the offer is undervalued, but given the fact that i dont have a source of stable income at the moment, bird in hand is better than 2 in the bush.

i am aware that i cannot switch jobs for 2 years, or else i face a ban in qatar for 2 years but i want your opinion on the implications of having an indefinite contract on a possible switch after 2 years. is the company obliged to give me an NOC after 2 years or is it at their discretion? i can live with being undervalued but not indefinitely.
what about job switches to other GCC countries is there some kind of cooperation in terms of banning rules amongst the GCC countries.

also what about my wifes residence permit?, i had read elsewhere on this forum that a min sal of 10000 QAR /m is required for me to be able to sponsor a family residence permit for my wife. does that take into account the value of the accomodation?
if not what kind of visa will she get and what are its implications on her coverage for medical benefits or ability to take up employment?

i have searched the internet for an official government stance on the queries i have , but i have not found any official website addressing my queries,
this forum is by far the most helpful resource in regards to getting questions about living in qatar answered, i thank all the contributors for doing a a great service to us seekers and request you to also answer my queries patiently in detail as you have done to so many others:)

god bless

they are not obligated to grant you a NOC after 2 years. Negotiate this point up front, and make it written in your contract.

thanks everyone for your valuable comments and input,

further question is there any advantage in making it a fixed term contract? say 2 years?

i can appreciate that the co may be offering me a low salary since they dont have a baseline indicator of my performance. but in 2 years after i have proven my performance and we still dont agree on my value, the contract is not renewed and it automatically expires then i can seek a job in come other company?

is my assumption correct or do i still face a 2 year ban?

also i still have 1 month to join at what point of time does the company get the sponsorship rights to my WP? is it after the finger printing and govt registrations or as soon as they start processing my work visa. as in can i continue to search for a right value opportunity in the time being?

yes as you said the package is low.

but you can have a good offer if you can wait or try.

you cannot change jobs within Qatar unless you get NOC which is not possible as they are planning for indefinite contract.

you can go to other GCC country.

Based upon your qualifications and experience your salary is definitely not unto the mark; I think at least try to negotiate a basic salary of 10k so that you can bring your family. However in worst case I think you should take the offer and after you reach Qatar you can search for better opportunities in parallel in other GCC countries.

It is easier to shift to another GCC country from 1 GCC country as you will be aware of this region and also the middle-east experience is given lot of weight age here.

"...is the company obliged to give me an NOC after 2 years or is it at their discretion?..."

it is their discretion; hence you rightly thought it is better to shift to other GCC countries like UAE for example after 2 years.

"...hat about job switches to other GCC countries is there some kind of cooperation in terms of banning rules amongst the GCC countries..."

No luckily there isn't..
