How to get away from Canadian TAX while working in Qatar?

The non residency is as simple as filling out a form for CCRA.....the ties to Canada is tricky.

CCRA in the past has ruled that people that still could come back to Canada at a moments notice were not really non residents...and made them pay taxes...in your case, best to see a professional accountant's help and maybe seek a ruling from CCRA before you depart!

how easy/difficult is it to declare yourself a non resident?  do we need help from  professional accountants? how do we get around not selling a brand new car in canada since we will be losing a lot of money if we do?  what if our parents will continue staying at our house in canada since they have been doing so for the past four years?  we can't kick them out just because we are living outside the country.  any advise? 

But that's illegal....the advise I was proposaing is perfectly legal.

bring in cash or travellers cheques....each time he flew back....

HSBC sells 1000 TC on prior order....

Declare yourself a non resident...and let your ties lapse with Canada (ie do not renew health cards, drivers licenses etc...). Make sure any property you have is leased at an arms length transaction to a third party (non related to you, so CCRA doesn't rule that it is available for your immediate use), likewise, ensure that any investemnts you have are locked in for the log term, and live more than 182 days outside of Canada, and Voila.....you are now supposed to pay your taxes to the country you reside in. What that? Qatar doesn't have ANY taxes? Maybe that's why its so attractive to Canadians!

i'd suggest hiring a tax accountant who has experience in this area.  there are many permutations and combinations to making yourself exempt.  there is quite a lot of information for expatriates on the canada revenue agency web site.

am not a Canadian, but what i've heard form some friends and colleagues is, for them not to pay tax, they have to remove all their ties in Canada (i.e. house, bank account......), the only thing they retain is their Citizenship and their wife and kids are staying with them here. hope this helps
