forced to work 11 hours during ramadan

Good Day to everyone. I am a filipino working here in Qatar for 1year and I would like to know if it is legal for a company to let their non-muslim employees work for 11 hours during the ramadan period because one of my friend from al-khebra driving school told me that they are told to work for 11 hours on ramadan. They are told to work from 7:30am to 12:30afternoon and 3:00pm to 6:00pm and then back at 7:00pm up to 10:00pm. This is too much work for underpaid people with only 900QR basic pay and 600QR allowance. I really sympathyze with them. Please let us help the poor guys in al-khebra because this abuse will never stop to escalate if no help come from outside of their company. Your support will be very much appreciated...

thats 286 hours a month

salary total : 1500 QR

so they get paid 5 reyals per hour .. or 1.4 US$ an hour

Muslim or Non Muslim its Six hours per law during Ramadan and the same is affirmed by the concerned Minster/s time and again. Some companies follow some don't "FULL STOP"

As per the OP, his friend is asked to work 11 hours without overtime allowance(irrespective of the month)is against the labor laws

There are many places where they exploit non muslims during Ramadan (especially those who coome from third world countries) And I am sure it's  politically acceptable in this country. Nobody sees anything wrong with it. They think by mistreating nonmuslims during Ramadaan they can reinforce the belief that you are a loser if you are non muslim.............do you want to bring up your children in such country with such thinking.

No apartheid in Labor law; however managements do expliots; lodge a complain with labor ministry. Management could request their non muslim employees to work extra at extra overtime payments but without force.

I'm working with so called multinational company and then sponsored by the local company and I still do need to continue to work as per usual 12hours shift and no overtime was paid. When asking the boss, he will said oh all have been included in your salary. At first they didnt know that they need to pay the overtime if excess than 6hours. And the following year they changed the contract and saying all should be inclusive and no single cent increment reflect to this overtime,to them this problem solve. Then we could not make anymore noise. In additiion to that I'm a muslim. He he!! very fair treatment from the so call multinational organisation doing bussiness in Qatar. This is prove not to be religion base but the mentality  on how to get the money as much as possible from the people... or a guy that wants to show to other big gun they they can run the company with small amount of money and maximise the profit hopefully in return he can get something from the company. For sure that this company from developed country and run by developed people.

umm just let's not forget that majoirty of the company/buisness onwers who're grilling  and exploiting employees here in Qatar are actually foregin expats themselves!

Some companies are not following the labour law and these people is 7arami, i have a friend working in some contracting company which his duty starts from 8am-10pm since his dumb boss sleeping around 2pm and went back around 7pm and force them to work...

poor companies spend more time to struggle economy, rich companies do more relax time ^_^ some stupid companies are not respecting the Holy Ramadan Month.. some companies are still giving more working hours.. but for us, we are blessed we work only 4 hours during ramadan ^_^ 2 hours chit chat with co workers and 1 hours smoking and of course 1 hour QL ^_^

the "total working hours" numbers since you are mixing weeks and months and the figures do not add up.

Pilgram in my company it is stated that it will be 6 hrs X Day and anything beyond that will be paid as extra time. At least it says so in the circular, now the accomplishment of that could be an issue as you say!!

It is also stated in that circular that people involved in projects or within deadlines/timeframes to achieve/deliver/finalize should go on normal duty. (8 hrs X Day)

dear, let them report as Qatar Labour Law said during ramadan its 36 working hours per week, what some companies are doing is they let the staff work 24 or less to work 1st two weeks and then the last two weeks staff use to work 50 to 60 hours. that is rubbish too, but poor staff do not like to go to labour and complain. but you ask your friend to file a complain i am sure labour dept will be on their head.

I have a different experience, pilgram. A company that wants me will follow the Labor Law if I hold it against them. They don't do it with people who don't take the stand or who don't know it.

The Qatar Labour Law states that during Ramadan, workers are required to work 36 hours per week, that is 6 hours per day. And this is applicable to everybody, Muslim or Non Muslim. Any work done exceeding this maximum hours set by the Labour Law should be paid accordingly as overtime.

Who actually follows the labour laws here LP? I never worked for a single company in Qatar that gave non-Muslims shorter working hours during Ramadan.

i think based in Qatar Labour law it should be only 8hrs of work a day only... if they exceed they must pay overtime....

Article 73"The maximum ordinary working hours shall be eighty four hours per week at the rate of eight hours per day with the exception of the month of Ramadan when the maximum working hours shall be thirty six hours per month at the rate of six hours per day."The Labor Law does not specify that the worker has to be a Muslim!
