Direct-hired but processing thru agency

Hi! Need your advise about fees. We were directly-hired thru referrals of a friend. We were advised to contact a specific agency here in Philippines(which was noted in the contract as one responsible for the repatriation should something happen) for our mobilization process which we did. However, we are a bit confused of the fees that we shall pay since what we know is that we are direct-hired. May I ask what fees should we expect from this status? We checked with the agency already and aside from the physical examination fees which costed us around Php 1.5K each, we are asked to pay also for the processing and stamping of visa and their service fees totalling to 17K. I've heard about the one-month placement fees which some agencies would ask from the applicants. Fortunately, this amount didn't appear in our verification with the agency. Well, we can afford the required amount mentioned above if we want to but yes, it's still something that we need to produce. If someone can clarify these things to me, I will highly appreciate it. Thank you very much.

architect dmigtysolomon...probably, that's the reason why we were directed to them. anyway, lucky for

fieryangelinthesky to have such opportunity. we have a friend who also had same experience which made us a bit confused of what made our situation different from you and others. for now, we are yet inquiring in the company itself just for us to know our stand in the process, just waiting for feedback... but with all your comments and advises, i guess i'm already equipped with valuable ideas! thank you guys!

it matters thou. If you were directed to an agency, it means that the company who will hire have already an understanding with the agency! Just make sure you keep all your receipts. Usually, it is reimbursed by the company once you're here! As for the one-month placement fee, it is negotiable with the agency!

Jersy758, all fees like POEA, OWWA, OEC, Medical, DHL, Dental have been paid by my employer. The only expense I incurred was my transport going to this institution.

Thank you for these clarifications! For the links posted by fieryangelinthesky, I'll be reading them thoroughly and take notes of the points. For certified BisDak, thank you for the advise. It helped. As I understand, we were directly hired since we didn't apply to them thru any agency. We just submitted our applications directly to the company and when we accepted their offer, we were then directed to coordinate with a specific agency here in the country for our medical and emigration process. And when we got in touch with the said agency, we were asked to pay an amount for the processing, stamping of visa and service charges. These amount we assume was that for direct-hired employee since they had asked us first if we were hired by the company or we applied thru them. A bit confused about whether these amount should be paid by the company for us or ourselves, or about the placement fees (if ever there is) that might be subtracted in our monthly salaries, we have been searching the net and asking friends already working abroad for any related experience that might help until I finally came here in qatarliving.com...

Hello jersey758,

In my company I am the responsible for the hiring of my co-Filipinos...

So this is how it is...

If you are directly hired here in Qatar you dont need an agency in Philippines if you are a professional, e.g. architects, engineers or medical profession...but if the company who hired you here in Qatar has an accredited recruitment agency in Phil so you have to pass through that agency same way as you are applying not unless this agency give you a waiver which is very impossible, money wise...so as a rule you have to pay the your medical, the processing fee and the placement fee of one month salary of your salary... this happen to one QC engineer i am supposedly directly hired, they just give him a little discount....

I believe that passing through legitimate agency is beneficial to both the applicant and and the employer...

In order for us to be accredited to POEA we have to submit a lot of documents, e.g. the company registration, visa allocation and the some contracts proving that we are really have existing projects here...

I hope this info help you....

So welcome to Qatar, and while you are still in Phil, spend quality time with your family...

Good Luck and may the One True God bless you....

You are in the Philippines, and i suppose you know how strict the government is in its rules as to the deployment of OFWs.

1. Why you were referred by the employer to a recruitment agency in the Philippines is in compliance of POEA Memorandum Circular #4, particularly, the employer hired you through a licensed recruitment agency who will assume responsibility over your deployment.

The same memorandum also required foreign employers to go through a screening process, to present a performance bond, repatriation bond, and medical insurance, but these were recently removed by the government.

2. With regards to the placement fee, POEA has advised that it is the prerogative of the agency if they have to collect a placement fee or not, and if they do, they'd be allowed placement fee be equivalent to one month salary, exclusive of documentation and processing costs.

Better inquire from POEA for an official answer.

Mind your own business, then see the joy coming into your life.
