Assault Case

I lost my temper with my colleague. He is so rude and arrogant. Besides, he is hated by all. I slapped his face with a paper punch and got a cut (not serious). The case is pending in the court.

Do you know of the common penalty given by the court on this particular case? Pls. reply.

I was physically assaulted by my male indian co-worker, I'm a girl with a small frame (4'11 height). He slap/hit me because I slammed the company car's door during an argument. I doubt that my company will do something about it except maybe a written reprimand. I've been here for barely 2 months. I'm a Filipino accountant and have some background in law but I don’t know how it works here. Should I sue? Or is it ordinary here to slap someone?

Jckeep, you have any witness who will corroborate what you say?

I think he was trying to power punch a hole on his ear lobes.

I just hope that what you did is worth all the bother you will get from such a reaction.

Other people hating him will not get you off lightly in court because this is a case of assault and battery.

I thought the paper puncher was for punching holes in paper not peoples faces.

most probably they will just cut off your hand so u dont repeat this again and waste the time of the court :) OR u can go and talk to the A-hole again to take the case back, if he says NO...SLAP him again for good measure :)

because most of the people who thinks after coming and making money they are the king. they can do anything with the influence of big people. it is wrong. let others also work and help them instead of creating problem. people like you should get punishment then only you people will learn lesson and do not repeat the same

a person who is straight and loyal all will hate that is what this wrold. here you know how to polish people and moove according to the situation. outside you will be humble but all crookedness will arise from this humbleness. i have same experience. those who speak on face will be hated by everyone.

Amoud, thank you for the info. Hope you have read my previous message in this thread... I take responsibility for my act. However, I believe the law provides mitigating sentence in the case of provocation. And that is what I am looking for. What I did is wrong and I am not looking for justification for acquittal but a mitigating sentence.

Thank you again.

jckeep, I dont know if justifying hitting someone with a hole punch just because he is an A-hole will stand up much in court. If this was the case I would clobber about 5 co-workers daily. You can be charged for giving someone the finger here, so I can only imagine what you will get for physical assault.

Pro bono work is also not common here, and the average hourly fee for a decent lawyer here in Qatar ranges from 800 QR per hour up to 1600 QR per hour, and lawyers log every second, even if you call them to ask them anything.

Good luck with your case....

I have tried. Our top management people also tried. In fact he's been offered cash and many tried to convince him not to pursue the case. I don't have the option to settle it out of court. He is so determined to pursue the case. He believes he can put me in jail for three years, that's why I asked you about the common penalty given for this particular case.

He's just too good in acting and in words. He's a good liar. I don't know how to argue. I need good lawyers but I think they are too expensive to hire.

I would love to know if there are group of lawyers here in Qatar who provide free legal assistance. Hope you can help. Thank you.

barukhan - this is a completely different incident. You would do well to follow the moderators advice and stop talking about your airport incident, since it is still under investigation by the police.

burakhan- sorry for what happened to you. But i think u already posted another thread about this. This is another case, jckeep claims to have assaulted a colleague.

jckeep- cant u settle this out of court. give your colleague a gift and offer a heartfelt apology. Atleast make it look heartfelt!

At super nurse, no he didnt hit my on the face or a punch, this guy didnt even have any guts to start the fight on my face when i turned my back to go out of airport he hit me with his walkie talkie on the back of my head.

My father tried to stop him and he hit walkie talkie on my fathers jaw he is heart patient and 60 year how can a normal person do like this [removed by mod]

Burakhan, I think this may be a case of mistaken identity. Jckeep is a Philippino man who assaulted a co-worker. I don't believe he was the man at the airport. Both assaults are, of course, regrettable.

I am not trying to "correct", sweetheart. But I noticed that many people in this country misuse terms, knowingly or not. However, a fax machine (who still has one?) might be an adequate weapon. Lol.

Thank you. I will get one from our embassy. I'd like to take responsibility for my act. However, I will present my case to at least mitigate the sentence or lessen the charge, if not, to justify acquittal.

Your comments really helped me. Some comments even made me laugh. They temporarily erased some of my worries.

If I had used a PAPER CLIP, I guess, the charge will be more lesser.

Thanks again!

baldrick2dogs I heard a slap with an open hand in the ME is very taboo esp. if it lands on an Arab. It's apparently extremely insulting. If that's the case you're better off with the paper punch.

It's attack with a deadly weapon. A slap is with an open hand and would problably have been laughed out of court. as it stands you'll be luck to get off with common assault!

Did you Google it first?

You should closely follow the case of the Air Port employee who assaulted a Pakistani family with his handy. What he gets, you will get, too.
