Qatar is turning too sweet!

Who could keep away from that cheesy slice of thin crust pizza or that bag of chips? Who could keep their eyes (and hands!) away from that slice of extra chocolatey chocolate cake or that can of soda?

If you could, good for you for, it seems that the rest of Qatar is finding it very hard- really hard!

A recent study by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) reveals that Qatar along with Oman and the UAE will have the highest growth in Type 2 Diabetes between now and 2035. It looks like Diabetes and Obesity are turning out to be two very alarming issues in Qatar.

Although an individual’s genes could play some role in type 2 diabetes, one can prevent it by eating clean and exercising regularly. However, those affected by Diabetes can follow some steps in order to keep it at bay. For instance-

1-      Check your feet daily. Although it might sound a tad absurd, there’s a lot of reason behind it. High blood sugar can damage one’s nerves leaving him unable to feel pain in cuts and wounds.

When you check your feet regularly and notice any strange redness or wounds, consult your doctor immediately.

2-      Exercise. We all know that exercising is an essential factor to keep and stay fit. But what it does to the diabetic ones is, it prevents unused insulin being stored in the body. Those with Diabetes need to keep moving!

3-      If you’re a smoker and diabetic, you have to quit smoking, right now!! Smoking and Diabetes is a dangerous mixture for, smoking can increase insulin resistance.

4-      Check your Doctor for a healthy food plan and follow it religiously! Food and diet plans vary according to a person’s activity levels, medications etc.

5-      Get rid of stress. It’s believed that Diabetes is generally harder to control in those who are stressed out always. Try to get a good night’s sleep and try to go to bed at the same time every night so that a sleep pattern would be created.

According to the QDA (Qatar Diabetes Association) the country provides latest treatments for Diabetes. However, one has to concentrate a lot on its prevention too. Small changes in our lifestyle can lead to a big difference in our health.
