Professions that are not eligible for a driver's license
The following is the unofficial translation of the full list of professions not eligible to apply for the Qatari driving licence, as announced by the Traffic Department:
Gypsum worker, technical assistant, service worker, watchman, horse trainer, labourer, sailor, servant, nanny, farmer, blacksmith, bakery worker, painter, herdsman, fisherman, tailor, calligraphy technician, shoemaker, grocery worker, tiles worker, builder, butcher, service worker, nutrition worker, industrial service worker.
Hotel service worker, financial services worker, vegetable seller, plumber, sea shipment worker, land shipment worker, jeweller, air cargo worker, cook, typist, boat carpenter, beauty saloon worker, welder, translator, painter, welding technician, installation technician, maintenance technician, mechanical technician.
Barber, baking mixer, shawarma and sandwich griller, falafel maker, sweets maker, waiter, laundry worker, prayer caller (moazin), rescue worker, security guard, gate guard, lift worker, shipping worker, carrier, packing and grinding worker, irrigation worker.
Gardener, agricultural worker, wood seller, horse hostler, fodder worker, machine operator, tailoring worker, plaster worker, tents tailor, embroider, general typing, stamp maker, crusher machine operator, glass technician, marble technician, metal-casting technician, tiles technician.
The following professions are also not allowed to apply for a driver's license.

Regulate the acquiring of driver license is better for reducing the traffic on the road and avoiding rude driver...Especially, driver came from South-Asia & Africa Countries, (i.e. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nigerian, Kenya, Sudan, Ethopia, most epecially no.1 Egypt.)
Driving here in Qatar is very dangerous, Drivers here Locals or Expats loves Tailgating and using their Mobile while driving. Be very careful guys with these two types of drivers...
what about heavy licence ? everyone can take it ? foreman or accountant or engineer can take it ?

My visa is FOREMAN, Last Month i have joined Driving institute, they did not told anything, Now i have completed theory classes, iam awaiting for signal test, this week will inform me, and also above mentioned list also not there FOREMAN visa, Kindly let me know about FOREMAN Visa for approval from traffic department.

Friends, I am an American Citizen working in Doha. I have a Master's Degree in Business and am Microsoft Certified Professional. I work on computers, software, hardware and networking on Al Udeid Air Base. Unfortunately, they have put my work code down as "Maintenance Technician" which is completely wrong. The only "Maintenance" I do is on the databases I work on. Does anyone know an easy way to change this? I have my transcripts from college and Microsoft available.
Who's already having license they can renew with valid id card like I did , I am on Security Guards visa.

Being able to have a driver's license is not a human right. It is a privilege (and responsibility) that is authorized by the relevant authorities based on the criteria they deem to be relevant (whether you agree with them or not).
If you are a qualified professional IT engineer, don't take up a job with the title technician (as an example from the list above). Unfortunately, people are desperate to come to work in Doha and will accept the "misnomer" and then learn later that their job title has this negative impact on their lifestyle.
This is why I say that only Brits be given a license
So, based on your job title I will give you your human rights and if your job title is mentioned above you cannot have a car and you have to go on your foot !...
and there are some people like @briteexpat who agreed on this ! "what is wrong with you people !!!"
Simple..no 1 allow to apply for driving license..
Among those professions, a horse trainer is the most lucky one... at least he might be able to ride his horse.
@wgajasinghe - it means u do not have what it takes to drive here in Qatar. People like you who cannot pass and still get the license for some weird reasons are the ones responsible for so much accident in the roads of Qatar simple because you are lacking the most basic fundamental thing about driving - Road Courtesy and Safety. Good thing you fail otherwise your another accident waiting to happen here.

I suggest it should be salary based and with proper educational attainment. I have friends who are working as electricians but they are graduate of 5yrs engg course. They just grabbed the job due to urgent financial need.

People who's profession is not eligible for Transfering license, please do try with this. Apply/Take temporary Qatar license (if u have other original GCC License) before u get the QID. and Once u get the QID change it to permanent. I did so and i got the QDL. :)

how about the one already got licence under their labor visa? can they renew after their date expired?

what about supervisor visa - because last week i went traffic dept to change UAE license to Qatar llicense. according to them in supervisor i am not eligible to change license,
