Board game of the season: Sijen

Sometimes Qatar’s summer heat can have us not wanting to leave our homes at all. These days are best spent with a close group of friends playing board games. We are not just talking about any board game, we are talking about Sijen (or Jail in English).
Sijen is a new Arabic board game that has been taking the gulf by storm. People have filled their social media accounts with pictures of Sijen with friends, at home or in the majlis.
The game has gained popularity amongst a large age group, from kids to middle aged men and women, and now it’s time for you people to join in on the fun.
The game is simple. You basically have four pins in a corner that is considered the jail. You have to roll a six to get out and then you have to make it around the entire board without getting eaten (player placing their pin on the same spot as you).
The game can accommodate up to six players and can be played individually or with partners. It’s fascinating how such a simple concept can bring out the competitive side in people and allow them to enjoy hours of lighthearted fun.
You can find the game for sale on many Instagram accounts such as @shesh_game, or head out to Souq Al Ali for a less expensive, albeit less pretty alternative. Or you may even get crafty and make your own.
People have been getting artistic and creating their own themed versions of Sijen.
Have you tried playing Sijen yet?
