Qatar is a country that understands the value of art and creativity. It’s seeped in art galleries and museums that have both an astonishing build and an impressive collection. It has hundreds of highly talented individuals under its wing too.
Thus, Qatar definitely has something to give for all the art buffs around the town.
Here, we have come up with 10 art galleries and museums in Doha that house a remarkable collection of artwork to gaze at.
1-Mathaf – Arab museum of modern art

Opened in 2010, this museum is the one to head to for some modern and contemporary art. It continuously holds exhibits, both solo and collective, of contemporary Arab artwork.
It also has a permanent collection of artworks form the early 1840s till the present day.
The museum is situated in a former school in Doha’s Education city.
2- MIA (Museum of Islamic Art)

This museum with its stunning interior is a must-visit in Doha. It consists of intricately decorated carpets, ceramic ware, metal works etc. and an amazing view of the ocean.
3- Al-Riwaq

It’s a non-collecting exhibition space which was built in 2010 as a temporary venue to host two art exhibitions.
But due its beautiful location and building, it was transformed into a gallery where art exhibitions are being held.
4- Katara Art Center

Located in Katara Cultural Village, the KAC hosts exhibitions of budding artists from the region. It encourages young talent to get a head start in their creative field.
5- Anima Gallery

Situated in The Pearl, this art gallery exhibits regional and foreign artwork for the visitors to enjoy. Also, the gallery has an “Anima Lounge” adjoining it where the visitors can sip and munch away while reading art magazines.
6- East Wing
Although this gallery doesn’t have a permanent space in Doha, one could visit its website to learn about the venue of its exhibitions.
East Wing dedicates itself to unique photographs that bring about a new perspective to art.
7- Al-Markhiya Gallery

Found in 2008, this contemporary art gallery showcases works of budding artists, painters, sculptors, photographers etc. from the region alone. It’s situated within the traditional tourist destination, Souq Wakif.
8- Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar (VCU Qatar)

The university along with its art and creativity degree programmes, also hosts exhibitions where popular international artists and their works are displayed.
9- Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani Museum

Named after the art lover and Doha born businessman, Sheikh Faizal museum is located in Al-Samriya. It has an impressive collection of 15,000 artworks along with other exhibits like an array of vehicles, including rare Ford T cars.
10- National Museum of Qatar

Still under construction, this museum once opened will definitely be an art haven for the art buffs. Designed by the award winning architect, Jean Nouvel, the museum is set to open very soon.
