Ministry of Interior introduces open data website
In a bid to increase transparency and make it more convenient to access information for residents and citizens of Qatar, the Ministry of Interior (MOI) has launched an open data website.
With this initiative MOI has become the first government department in Qatar to do so, according to Qatar Tribune.
Aligned with the “Open Data Policy” of the country’s Ministry of Communications (2014) and the Government’s Digital 2020 Strategy for Transparency, Efficiency, and Community Participation the website aims to offer the public an easy to use experience and thus increase engagement.

Director of Public Security Major General Saad Bin Jassim Al Khulaifi along with a number of directors of the MOI departments were present at the inauguration ceremony.
Captain Ali Ahmed Al Bin Ali, Head of Electronic Services and Internet Department of the General Directorate of Information Systems presented the different features of the website, as well as future developments and improvements within the context of the open data policy at the ceremony, reported The Peninsula.
The ultimate aim of the policy is to enhance information availability for all while lifting any restrictions.
Under the policy, the MOI’s website will include approved data packages such as traffic data, road accidents, and other data of public interest that comes under the jurisdiction of the MOI.
The policy enables the creation of a knowledge-based society by providing efficient and transparent public services while encouraging a culture of openness and accessibility.
With the introduction of this website Qatar’s assessment in any global appraisal where “transparency of the government” is an evaluation component will be enhanced as it facilitates data access for the public.
It also allows MOI to keep abreast of the significant developments in the field of open data at the global level as well as in the Gulf region.
