HBKU’s College of Science and Engineering hosts Virtual Cybersecurity Workshop for aspiring computer scientist
The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) presented a Virtual Cybersecurity Workshop to a select group of senior high school students, as part of its ‘Innovate.Create’ series of computer engineering training programs.
Representing different schools across Qatar, the aspirant HBKU students learned to understand both how computer attacks work and how to secure computers against cyberattacks.
The session focused on the multidisciplinary aspects of cybersecurity technology, as well as policy, ethics, and management related to IT security and cyber threats. The workshop was organized and led by Dr. Roberto Di Pietro at CSE’s Division of Information and Computing Technologies.
Helped by the workshop’s fully practical approach, the students were able to develop their skills by working in a group setting. Through a series of tasks, they were able to build on their new-found insights into how systems security affects their lives, sometimes in unnoticed ways, and work on practical engineering projects and application developments.
Speaking after the successful Virtual Cybersecurity Workshop, Dr. Mounir Hamdi, Dean of the College of Science and Engineering, said: “Stimulating early technological vocation and identifying enthusiastic young talent are key factors for nurturing cybersecurity professionals of the future.
CSE’s Innovate.Create workshops aim to promote curiosity and the development of technical skills as a means to encourage students to pursue this direction in their higher education, for which we cater through our Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering program.”
CSE currently offers 13 state-of-the-art degrees, including the BSc in Computer Engineering, which aims to produce globally competitive computer engineering professionals for Qatar, the region, and the wider world.
