Concerned about children accessing explicit content? Try Kiddle!
Qatar, thanks to inbuilt internet filters, is a country that is largely safe for children to browse without risk of accidentally accessing explicit content. But even then, some websites do slip through the cracks in the system.
However, there is now some good news for parents who are concerned about their kids accidentally viewing NSFC (not safe for children) content.
www.kiddle.co is a search engine that is powered by Google, but not a Google product itself, which excludes certain terms that are NSFC.
When a youngster searches a term that the team from Kiddle has deemed to be ‘inappropriate,’ a robot appears to warn children of the error.
Kiddle claims that the first three results are handpicked and checked by Kiddle editors. Results 4 to 7 are sites not for children, but written in appropriate and easily read language for children, also chosen by the Kiddle experts.
The next are sites written for adults, but harder for kids to understand. Google safe search is used to filter out explicit content. Additionally, parents have the ability to block out certain phrases themselves.
Searching in this site is certainly going to make it tougher for children to come across explicit material.
While the search engine still needs to be perfected, it’s a great start to limit a problem that has given parents headaches for years.
Kids who are hell bent on accessing information not meant for them are probably going to succeed. But even then, with so much misinformation out there, providing them with age-appropriate, accurate content is important.
Why do you worry so much ? ...............
