After a half-decade wait, you can finally zoom in on Instagram pictures

After five years of impatient waiting, Instagram fanatics can finally do what they’ve always wanted to do… zoom in on pictures and look at those minute details a little more closely than ever before.

When good news rains, it pours. You can pinch and zoom Instagram videos as well. How cool is that?

Since last Wednesday, Instagram users on both iPhone and Android devices may have noticed that they can now pinch to zoom in and out of photos.

Starting today, you can pinch to zoom on photos and videos in feed, on profiles and on Explore. Dive into an adorable puppy’s smile or into every detail of your friend’s new shirt. Over the past six months, you’ve seen many exciting changes come to Instagram, from a new icon to longer videos and even a new way to share everyday moments with Instagram Stories. And as things change, we’re still focused on improving the core parts of Instagram. Zoom is available today for Instagram on iOS. Zoom will be available on Android in the coming weeks.

“Over the past six months, you’ve seen many exciting changes come to Instagram, from a new icon to longer videos and even a new way to share everyday moments with Instagram Stories,” the company wrote in a statement on Instagram.

“And as things change, we’re still focused on improving the core parts of Instagram,” it said.

The new functionality will be available for zooming in on photos and videos in your feed, other people's profiles and in the Explore section.
