How to avoid getting scammed in Qatar
There are a number of malicious ways a scammer can use your personal data to either misuse your identity or even steal your hard-earned money.
In the case of a scam, there are four signs you need to look out for when someone you do not know reaches out to you.
Traditionally, scammers tend to pretend to be from a familiar organization, such as a governmental authority or a local business.
They would then tell you that you can win a prize or that there is a problem you are faced with which needs to be addressed immediately, adding pressure on you to act now.
While you may not be asked for your bank card details directly, they will tell you to pay in a specific way such as bank transfers or a fake check.
It can be hard to acknowledge that the person contacting may be a scammer as you go about your busy or normal day. But here are some steps you can follow to avoid a scam.
Block unnecessary calls and text messages
It is important that you take some time to block unwanted numbers that usually contact you via calls or messages.Do not give away your personal or financial information
Legitimate businesses will not contact you through phone, email, or text to ask for personal information such as your bank account number, or credit card number. Even if you receive an email or text message from a company with which you do business and believe it is legitimate, you should avoid clicking any links. Instead, use a website you know is reliable to contact them.Resist the need to act immediately
As scammer has a small window of opportunity to convince you to share your precious data, it is imperative that you give in to the pressure of acting quickly.Be aware of how scammers tell you to pay
Never pay someone who insists on a gift card or a money transfer service as a method of payment. Also, never deposit a check and then transfer money back to the person who wrote it.Stop and speak to someone you trust
Before making any hasty decisions, taking the time to stop and talk to someone you trust can help you determine if you are getting scammed. This step becomes critical if you are dealing with a topic you are uncertain of.
