Qatar Olympic Committee president HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani was honoured as ‘CSR Person of the Year 2015.’
He was recognised for his significant role in supporting corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes and for being a role model in inspiring Qatar’s youth.
Sheikh Joaan received the award during the launch of the fourth edition of National CSR Report (Leaders’ Visions) by Qatar University (QU).
Prime Minister and Interior Minister HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani presided over the ceremony.
Several leading companies and community representatives were also honoured for their CSR role.
QU conducted a study on ‘CSR in Qatar and Organisational Performances’ and found that a majority of companies surveyed spent more than QR1m annually on CSR initiatives.
The study also revealed that the oil and gas sector contributed towards more than 15 per cent of overall CSR activities in the country.
The report will be distributed to all Qatari embassies around the world through the Foreign Ministry — one of the partners of the report.
