Hard working RAMS win PIBAQ Under-14 basketball title
Filipino nationals have always proudly professed their love for basketball. Living far away from home, their love for the game has never once gone down.
And the next generation of young, Doha-based Filipino talents was in full flow at the Al Gharafa Gym last week.
RAMS, considered heavy underdogs, pulled off a surprise 60-53 win over favourites Ooredoo to win the Under 14 Division of the Pinoy Basketball of Qatar’s 19th season.
In front of a packed hall, the RAMS did what they always do best — perform under pressure.
They had passed through the proverbial ‘eye of the needle’ in the run up to their crucial do-or-die championship match against Ooredoo.
Team RAMS’s Gaa brothers — Harold and Howard — along with Seth Alex Sampaga, each scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Junalvin drubbed the RIF Tigers 49-22 to finish third.
The PIBAQ’s 19th Season was presented by Alicafe, with support from Philippine Embassy to Qatar, Qatar Basketball Federation, Ooredoo and Diana Jewellery & Watches.
