Qatar Football Association (QFA) sacked the national team’s Uruguayan coach Daniel Carreno on Thursday evening after their dismal losses, against Iran and Uzbekistan, in the final round of 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification.

His compatriot Jorge Fossati, who is currently in charge of Qatar league champions Al Rayyan, is the most likely candidate to take over the team’s reins.

It is understood that Fossati will hold a meeting with QFA President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani on Saturday morning before finalising the deal.

"Qatar is a special country for me and if its leaders ask me to take over the team, then I won't be able to say no," Fossati told Doha Stadium Plus.

Fossati previously coached the Qatar national team during the 2010 World Cup qualification.

And that's exactly how Qatar thinks: blame the teacher!

Don't blame the coach..it's the players who need to unite and move their butts faster in the field..it's like a child failing the exam and the teacher is always blamed..huh

Qatar will never have a "national" team! The players play for money, not for the country!

Football heritage is not built overnight.. Qatar is doing well, but it is a slow process..

i would rather they went for a seasoned European manager ...
