Qatar’s Abdalelah Haroun became the youngest-ever medallist in 400M at the IAAF World Indoor Championships when he finished second, with a season-best time of 45.59sec.
It was another big achievement for the 19-year-old Qatari, who last month broke the world indoor 500M record best and then won the Asian indoor title in Doha three days later.
Meanwhile, the Czech Republic’s Pavel Maslak became the third man in the history of Indoor Worlds — and the first one in 10 years — to successfully defend his 400M title. He took the win in 45.44sec while Trinidad and Tobago’s Deon Lendore (46.17) was third.
Qatari high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim was unsuccessful in his attempt to defend the world title from two years ago. After hitting the bar twice at 2.33M, he waived off the height. He could not make it past 2.36M in his only attempt left.
Earlier, Asian 800M champion Musaab Abdulrahman Balla, another hot Qatari title favourite, finished fifth in 1:48.31.
Mabrouk Sudan!
