Probe launched into worker death at 2022 WC Stadium at Al Wakrah

Tragedy struck at the work site of Al Wakrah Stadium on Saturday when one of the construction workers died following a ‘work-related’ injury.

The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy posted a brief note on its website, but did not give further details other than that the incident was under investigation.

“It is with deep regret we announce a work-related fatality on one of our projects,” read the statement at the SC website.

“Following an incident on Al Wakrah Stadium on Saturday morning, a full investigation is underway to determine the factors which contributed to the death of one of our workers.

“The relevant authorities were immediately informed and the family of the deceased have been notified. We offer them all the necessary support they may need at such a difficult time,” the statement said.

Late British architect Zaha Hadid had designed the Al Wakrah stadium.
