Lekhwiya beat QSL champions Al Rayyan to enter Qatar Cup final
Struggling giants Al Rayyan saw their winless run extend to the Qatar Cup after defending champions Lekhwiya thumped the Qatar Stars League champions 3-1 to secure a successive place in the final of the Qatar Cup.
Youssef Msakni scored the opener with a stunning header, typical of Robin van Persie's extraordinary header in the 2014 World Cup match against Spain.
Lekhwiya's second goal came from the boot of Muhammed Muntari, who dribbled past Oumary Barry to pump the ball into an empty net. The third, from South Korean Tae Hee Nam, was the final nail in Al Rayyan’s coffin.
Rayyan managed to score a consolation goal, but it came from a handball of Victor Caceras, which went unnoticed.
Thus, Al Rayyan's hopes of snapping a five-match winless streak suffered a damaging turn at the Al Sadd Stadium. They fell apart in the second half to a disciplined and attacking Lekhwiya team.
Since Rayyan's last victory against Al Wakrah in March, Jorge Fossati's team hasn't won a single game, losing to Al Ahli in their final league match.
Lekhwiya await the winner of Monday's semifinal between Al Sadd and El Jaish in the final.
