Will the Qatar-Bahrain bridge happen ?

Friends,

I am in Qatar for the last 18 months and have been hearing about the Qatar-Bahrain bridge happenning in 2 years. In between, there were rumours that this project was scrapped and is out of schedule due to oppositions from different sides. Now, upon winning the BID 2022, there are talks that this will happen ... yet again.

What do you think ? Will this bridge happen anytime in near future ?? Will we be able to drive to Bahrain, have a drink and drive back the same day ???

Throw in some of your views ...

It will happen...

it will connect Oman-UAE-Saudi-Qatar-Bahrin-Saudi-Iraq-Iran-China

Do you see a political union being formed?.... ;)

The delay is due a design change. Qatar has added a rail corridor to the bridge. Part of the GCC rail network.

It depends on when Bahrain will have the money to build their side of the bridge.

Qatar side is just waiting. It makes no sense to start building half a bridge.

Construction begins mid this year after a delay of approx 1 year (was supposed to start September 2010). Expect 4 years to completion.

Wont it cause loss to Qatar airways if people start driving ? .....just wondering what other reasons there could be to scrap it :-)
