What would be the future of Britain/America?
It's an early morning relief - not talking about taking a weekend laxative. But to see the David Cameron's humiliating face after the parliament said NO TO ATTACK in Syria.
Congratulation Brits, You are restoring the faith of millions across the world about "Democracy" and "People Power". Really really appreciate that.
Keep up with the good work. It is your country and it is your money and it is your name. :)
Do we have democracy in America? Do Americans really like to police the whole world? Or American Government/Congress would like to show that we make our own decisions because our people are not worth to listen to? Do Americans really like to be remembered as the responsible people to push World War III?
No offence and nothing personal, just some questions as an Investigative Journalist.
I agree LLR.
The real problem comes when you try to find the line that divides religion, religious extremism, and the line between ethically justified state intervention, and outright war crimes. The lines are blurred.
But the sentiment that both are acting in their own interests of power and control, and not because it is "right" or "religiously justified/necessary" is one I agree with. Both are acting in ways that are more similar than either party would like to admit.
There's not much difference to me between George W Bush and Bin Laden.
Yes RIP and Fubar American Government & Religious Extremist are both on the same page. They both want to maintain their power regardless what the civilians think about them & both of them have an agenda behind their actions which has been condemned by religious doctrines & international laws.
60% Americans opposed the military action. 9% Supported
Acting partially like dictator in the Land of Free by neglecting the opinions of the majority of their people and still confident of International Support - I think world is not stupid any more.
It is very obvious by that everyone has their own agenda to go into battle field. It is not by/for the people
Interesting example LLR.
The photos you posted above are of Paghman gardens. They were designed and built in the 1920s by the King, who had just returned from Europe and wanted to modernize and liberalize the country, and to try to remove the conservative religious influences in the country. Part of the conditions of entry into that park was that western dress would be adopted.
King Amunullah, unsurprisingly, was overthrown by religious elements in Afghanistan. As to when and by who, the gardens were destroyed, I do not know, and there is nothning online to prove whether it was the Taliban, the Mujahideen, the Russians, the Americans etc.
LLR Afghanistan is a good example of religion positioning their society. An afghan king, I think in the 1920s tried to bring Afghanistan into the 20th century but the religious mullahs organised the uneducated and the brainwashed to rise against him.
As your picture shows, people were free in the 1970s but unfortunately the Russians put in place a communist puppet and then religion was used to drive them out. Once successful in repelling the Russians the poor people in Afghanistan suffered from religious persecution, that still goes on until this day
It is better to stregnthen UN as the world police. All countries should have membership in it with equal power. Let all countries bothered on their on people...
Agree with you Brit Many in our country are also afraid to come out. If Egyptians came out why not Americans? What is more funny here is America Supported the will of Egyptian People , what about the will of American People?
There are 10s and 100s of similar questions and answers will roam around flawed democracy.
As I said , the lobby groups have a lot to answer for. Presidents come and go , but the DOD and lobbyists stay the same ..
One other thing. The people do have a voice but USA is an enormous country and they worry more about their own lives and of those around then about World affairs.
BritThis is a perspective of so many in the world today http://www.glennbeck.com/2013/08/26/glenn-on-syria-it-doesnt-make-any-sense/
Because of their historic reputation most of us dont think that America is going on War again to preach morality.
Brit Yes it is not so simple but in my opinion "Police Work" does not fit here as being a permanent member to UN Security Council America has no green signal to go for War.
No U.S. president truly qualifies as a peacetime president. Instead, all U.S. presidents can technically be considered “war presidents.”
The U.S. has never gone a decade without war.
My question is what about the voice of American People? Most of them being employed by Defence Industry do they like to get trained globally again and again?
RIP The world cannot continue to wage war like physical giants&to seek peace like intellectual pygmies. Basil O'Connor
You are seeing things too simplistically in my opinion. Yes, there is democracy in the USA. Like the UK, the Americans elect politicians to act on their behalf and make decisions.
However, in recent years , the politicians , as in the UK have failed to listen to the voice of the people. In addition, there are hawks in both parties. Both Republicans and Democrats have become similar in policy and thought.
One powerful factor in the USA is the various lobby groups and of course the fact that Defense industry is a major employer.
Last but most importantly, America is expected to take the moral lead in such issues and act as the World's Policeman
Does Obama want to be known as the US President that could have done something but didn't while thousands of kids, women and men got gassed by an evil dictator?
That's another way to look at it
