What are the rules on being drunk in public?

DJones
By DJones

How drunk is too drunk? How public is too public? IE traveling from the hotel bar to a cab, can and will you be arrested? Has this happened to anyone??! How long would they detain you? Would they deport you??

Am I really not going to be able to indulge my drinking habit??! :X

I dont think anything will happen if you roll out of a wet hotel blind drunk and into a taxi, as long as you get home safely and dont cause a disturbance on ya way!

as long as you take a taxi home after drinking at one of the hotels you will have no problem. The only problem you will have is wandering around outside the hotels being obviously drunk and then the police will arrest you.

As for drink driving the limit is zero, but the police rarely breath test which is unfortunate as a lot of the bars are full of Qataris who drive home when drunk. Most of the expats are sensible enough to get a cab when drinking.

djones, maybe you should consider Dubai instead.

First off you are a woman that will be drunk and therefore not seen as very ladylike at all. Just don't get too drunk at all and if you do, please remember, you may get into trouble but so may the people you are with. If you want to get leathered stay at home and drink. Cheaper option as grog in hotels is expensive.

I will hoist that up the flag pole and see who salutes it!!

I think you should forget about Qatar..

Wearing hotpants and tanktops and getting drunk in public may not go down too well here and may cause you problems :)

When you get here you can apply for a liquor license (from what i heard) so that you can legally have alcohol at home.

However, DON'T EVER FORGET that Qatar is a muslim country/islamic society. Be mindful of that when it comes to your drinking habit/behavior, dress, etc....do what you want in the privacy of your home, but when you're in public you're not only representing yourself, but the rest of us from the USA (in the eyes of Qataris).

Yesterday you are asking about wearing hot pants and little tops - today about drinking.....

mmmmmmmm you REALLY need to consider coming to Qatar if these are your priorities

Qatar has zero tolerance regarding this matter.

If they stop you and do a breath analyzer on you and find a hint of alcohol...you're done for. It's bye-bye QATAR within 24 hours.

Besides, everyone knows that it's dangerous to be drunk and drive....

Its safer to drink at your own home or residence. But on a second thought, how does the bars and night clibs around Doha managed its visiting customers this far. Otherwise there will be no business if a police catches all, the moment they goes out of the bar door.

Just one if found drunk in public first they take you to jail

then they take you to airport and get you on flight back to home.

nothing will happen as long as you are not driving after getting drunk.....but make sure you are under control and not completly drunk and always carry the copy of the cheque/bill when you leave after getting drunk at any hotel or bar.
