THANK YOU FOR DOWNLOADING
On what extend are we monitored by major companies at present. I love the internet, but you might call me old school but I hate saving passwords on firefox setting macros to login to email accounts in just a click or even clicking the “keep me logged in” on sites.
Though I am not paranoid about my credentials being stolen by someone or my details being used for major companies “profiling” who would later sell it to third world countries, it annoys me thinking where we are heading.
At present, E.g. Google got our mails (GMAIL), our searching habits (Google Search + Chrome), our network (Google +) and last, our personal files (Google OS + Android).
At present, all email service providers scans our emails, and that’s the reason we find closely related adverts to the subject and content of our mail. Even the search results that are placed on Google, yahoo and whatever the engine that you use are based on our habits, nationality, search behaviors etc.. in a nutshell who we are.
So now somebody thinks on behalf of us, and worse, decides what’s good and appropriate for us.
Individuals who don’t bother about this is really not aware as to how much personal information is gathered on a daily basis through their sites and mobiles (specially gps-enabled apps).
Even on mobile apps, do you see the logic of requesting permission to access your contact list just to play “angry bird” well you got no option to say NO if you really wanted to play it. Have you ever wondered why there are so much of free apps on mobile market and on social networks (facebook). Frankly, they are not free.
It was not much of a difference for me between “I do not agree” and “Agree & Download” until I entered the IT industry. Then I realized.
Just my thought. Happy surfing guys!
