Teach to Fish vs. Give a Fish
“Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime”

One of the most repeated themes in lectures was something like “give a man a fish, or teach him to fish.”
The idea being to instigate discussion about whether we should offer social aid to the needy or if it would be more correct to give them a job, teach them a profession so they can turn themselves around.

It shows that the world is indeed a cynical place..

There's an old proverb that says never teach 100% what you know or they will step on your head the next time
The policy is more like: "give them a Landcruiser and when they crash they need to buy a new one, but don't teach them how to drive".

A noble thought, but as we've seen, most nations / politicians would not agree.
If you teach them to fish, then they are no longer dependent on you..
"teach them a profession so they can turn themselves around" - and against you.
exactly what the Kuwaitis have been doing for over 30 years. Give them the means.
