Does anyone know of some good sri lankan restaurants? I'm dying for a spicy rice and curry or a good kotthu. Also, is there anywhere that does delivery??
Thanks you everyone for the suggestions.. will definitely try it out.. This Oriental Taste sounds exactly what i'm looking for, and I stay close to Royal Plaza so will check out Blue Oceanic as well.. Thanks again! :)
Scribbler the Oriental Taste I go to is most def in Abu Hamour. Yes it does serve workers, and as I stated is a bit rustic. But the food is awesome, average cost of a meal is QR 8, and I have never had any hygiene problems there. I am not the only white guy there either, and in the evenings I see a lot of Europeans eating around me, especially on Friday's. If I suspected there was anything dodgy about the cleanliness of the place I would be out of there like a shot.
Let's be clear about this, at QR 8 a meal you are not going to get 5 star hotel quality food. I am not recommending a romantic meal for 2 here. But if like me, you enjoy spicy food, and are not too fussy about the cuts of meat (chicken is well safe though) this place is for you. I am addicted to their food, and the great thing is they vary their menu every day, so even though I am there a lot, I never know what is going to be on offer and enjoy trying new stuff all the time.
Now I have to print this out and take a copy with me tomorrow for my free meal ;-)
I used to go to the one in Bin Mahmood, excellent food, I especially liked the peppered beef.
I abruptly stopped going after finding an insect in the cooked rice, this was on approx the 6th visit.
It is a place that primarily services labourers so I chalked it up to not being particularly bothered about hygiene. This is a subjective statement however, as I have not inspected their premises.
I would recommend a place called Blue or White Ocean in AL Saad, right behind Al Muftah. The place was definitely cleaner & the man running the shop was very friendly. Several families, women & professional level people also ate there.
I have been recently told about a place on the old airport road with a yellow signboard called Salamaat, that is supposed to be quite good, however I have not yet tried it.
Just come back from there as it happens... Mmmmm nice full belly.
1. Heading out of Doha turn left at Decoration R/A.
2. You will see Aramex on your right just before the next roundabout so you know you are going the correct way. Go straight over that roundabout.
3. You should now be on Meesamier (not sure about the spelling of that one I'm afraid) and should keep going until you come to a set of traffic lights that you need to turn left at. As you turn left you will see the Grand Shopping Centre and loads of fast food shops.
Awesome, I would definitely prefer delivery bc I don't have time to go out at the moment and Abu Hamour is a bit out of the way.. Would you have a number for them? And do they charge for delivery??
Try my local, I eat here most days. It's in Abu Hamour and is called 'Oriental Taste' and does several different cuisines but primarily it's Sri Lankan . It's a bit rustic but I love the food there. And it's blooming cheap ;)

Could you give us directions to Oriental Taste?
Oriental Taste is excellent. Certainly the best I've come across so far.
