S.O.S ):Landlord lost my cheques )-:

By MarcoNandoz-01 •
My compound managing company just sent me a letter informing me that a cheque I submitted a while ago has not been paid into the landlord’s account as the cheque has been lost.
What should I do?
I hand delivered 6 cheques at end of last month directly to the company’s management office. Now they are telling me they lost them somewhere & want me to write other new cheques in the same amount. I went to the bank & the customer service girl told me nobody cashed them. What to do? We have no idea where my cheques are. What would you do? ):
just get a cheque book of your own?
I have a cheque book and just write the cheques as needed, instead of asking the bank every time to give them two you.
In the last 6 years, I am only on my second cheque book.
Agree with BB and MM... get proof of everything. You have a letter from the LL stating he has lost the cheques, so take this along with you to the bank and ask them to re-issue:-)
MN - None...Cheque Issuance is a value added service provided by the banks in exchange for you keeping your money with them ;)
And dont bother trying to make them pay. It wont work coz it's not the Bank that lost your cheques :) And your LL would never pay.
Are there any fines/fees/ extra charges associated with cancelling the misplaced cheques?
And if so, then how much is? Coz I’m gonna make them pay!
I would write something stating that he lost cheques XXXX and that you are now issuing him cheques XXXXX as replacements and get him and a witness to sign it. That way if, for some reason he comes back and says the cheques bounced or wouldn't work (if he's trying to use the old cheques) you've got it in writing that you've issued him new ones.
MN - Infact I should be thanking you for putting mine and MM's name together. It's been quite a while somebody did that ;)
Phewwww! I almost had a heart attack! It's hard to trust ppl when ur not in your home country.
Anyways, Miss Mimi/ BB , thank you so much for your help really appreciated. (:
So I will cancel the issued (lost cheques) using their serial numbers and will issue 6 new ones, but The Landlord can’t hold them against me later? I mean how safe is? Technically he still has my old cheques somewhere!
MN - Thats why you need to inform the bank in writing and get a receipt for the new ones from the LL.
MN - I agree with MM....Lost checks are not a big deal if they are Account Payee and if you have the serial numbers. Inform the bank immediately and issue new checks to the LL ;)
Do you have the serial numbers for the previous cheques (should be in your cheque book)? If so go to your bank, cancel those cheques and write 6 new ones. That way they can't cash the old cheques.
