Socializing for more mature people?

I'm a motorsport, rugby, cricket and automotive enthusiast, amongst others and have been alone in Qatar for the past 7 months. I've found it quite a challenge socializing, as almost all my co-expats have been here many years and have been friends with each other's families for a long time and are far younger than I am. I also feel awkward in clubs and pubs alone, as it always looks like one is out trawling for prozzies...
If there are any other people or groups that share similar interests, please let me know...

Have you tried the Rugby Club? I know several of my more mature colleagues (40+ if not older) take part in activities there. Have you checked out any of the meetups on offer? Just a couple of possibilities.
