Qatar Convention Centre goes for LEED gold!
When most of us think of convention centers, we think of big empty spaces that are certainly not very environmentally friendly.
That’s not the case for the next generation of centers — case in point, the very cool looking Qatar National Convention Center. The striking 177,000 square meter structure is seeking a LEED Gold Rating, a first for a building of its type in the region.
When it’s completed next year the center will boast 3,700 square meters of solar panels in addition to a host of other resource-saving features.

its ok to flaunt your economy someway or the other but the state should also invest a part of its income to improve the basic infrastructure of the industrial area around the city which is indirectly responsible to bring in the revenue..
Most of the Qatar Foundation projects at Education City are Gold rated. No big deal really, when you add up the costs of delays, claims etc. Not too mention the cost of running it considering these buildings maybe lie empty for considerable periods of time.
When will it open? Sure would like to work there.
at least a good propganda
Paandu,
Sorry to spoil the party but we have to be transparent!!!
In Qatar no matter if a building is or not GOLD LEEDS certified. Either way, the process of producing electricity and potable water needed to maintain this building, pollutes more than entire cities in temperate climates!
LEEDS here is a propaganda tool!
very good initiative!
In Qatar we reacently started to hear about LEED certification..not many suppliers are aware it still!
Way to go Qatar!
all I can say is WOW!!
"..people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.."
I hope all Qatar projects will seek the LEED (or any other environmnet standard).
it is good to have people in business who cares for the things that surround us.
Good luck Qatar.
Amazing...3,700 square meters of solar panels ...There should be more buildings like this!
nice
