Hello there, Qtel came over to our house, and installed the Fiber Optic Router. What I'm confused about, is when they will 'turn the router on'. Qtel doesn't mention ANYWHERE when they are planning to turn the new network 'on'. Right now, there is no difference before and after they installed the Fiber Optic Router. I have 3.6 Mbps download speed, and 0.5 Mbps upload speed. Am I wrong about anything? Is the 'turning network on' false?

Thanks for helping, xzetera

There are some thoughts that the pricing will remain same as what you are paying now , they will just upgrade the speed. So for example like you got 8mb/s and pay 600, then they will just upgrade it to the max speed which is 100mbs and you will still pay 600. The probability of doing this is high, however, not very sure about it.

Fiber prices are really competitive as per ICT Qatar. Qtel is just waiting for their approval on pricing and hopefully its official launch is on 17 Nov. price will be even low if one is going with IPTV and the good news is that Qtel has slashed 1 year contract thing too, Users can cancel the service any time they want. also add that Existing customers of mozaic and adsl will not be charged for migration from Copper to Fiber.

totally agree with u redtreble.

the sad tryth is that:

u trust bank with ur money.

u trust hypermarket/restaurants with ur food without asking where they are from, how and by what they were irrigated or cultivated, if they were genetically modified, or hormon inhanced.

u trust ur health to a doctor u never saw before.

u use electricity/water without knowing where it is from, or how it is produced.

What I meant was that I don't believe that somebody would get 113 Mbps from a 100 Mbps connection.

So are you going to trust all your important files to a third party? Are you going to do away with processing power in the home when you're running on a connection provided by Qtel? I know I won't.

it is more than real. fiber optic connection in france in in GEGAs: why someone needs such a superspeed connection? it's simple: if the download is faster than the PC processing speed, u won't need ur applications anymore: u only need CLOUD computing.

u will open a pic using the paint application from the CLOUD.

113 Mbps download? Somehow I find that very hard to believe...

And according to that map, Zig Zag isn't fibred.

And what will the cost be? Given the stupid cost of 8 Mbps right now, I can't imagine how much they'll be looking to charge for 100 Mbps.

Can't say I'm expecting much from Qtel to be honest.
