every hotel has its own standard, own target market and own brand. Coupled with government restrictions, chilling out could not be really easy around here. Branding should be fine so you guys on gimmicks would know where exactly where to go and do not get lost in the world Lebanese, Chinese, Brits, Indies or Pinoys. Just head on straight to your kind of bar and chill out!
wow.. this is a very long thread!!! and guess it'll never end.
so.. which one of you "big spenders" are "on the list" @ PEARL for the major event this tuesday (18th Aug). its the BIG party before the closure for ramadan.
We can only take so much attack from people then we retaliate, as this has been proven in recent history… Again sorry big brother (mod) it will not happen again. Have a great day.
i've been..it's ok but the music is pretty loud. i'm excited the w opened up. haven't been yet but my friends want to go friday. is there a piano bar at the w? i'm pretty fond of those :-)
I just want to point out how much I love and admire jackfrost, he is truly my hero. I particularly love his opinions, especially how he always tries to put forward Islam and Muslims. He is like sunshine in my life. May god bless him and rain down on him wealth and happiness and may he live for a thousand year. It is a pity that there are not more people like him, and that really saddens me.
Jackfrost my dear, please promise me that you will foster a lot of children and bring them up to be such wonderful human beings as your self.
I think I've been misunderstood, although thank you Exiled for offering some support.
If I said I don't like how some Qataris talk on the phone during a movie, it doesn't mean I hate all Qataris. It just means that in certain social settings they do things that that make it unpleasant for me.
The same goes for English beer louts, or rowdy Americans. Different people have different ways of going out and having a good time, and it's only natural that I won't necessarily share the same views.
anyone has anything against the Lebanese, its just the places we are talking about are major Lebanese hang outs. The same as the Rugby Club is a major British hangout....
as you would back home, except for some of the ahem 'nightclubs' where there is a dress code.
Its when outside and in the shopping malls you have to dress more conservatively but even then you will see some ladies wearing quite revealing clothing
Hi everyone, i'm going to be coming over from the UK in August, i have a teaching post at Al Khor International School i was wondering what the dress code is for women when they go out to bars etc, i know that you have to dress pretty conservatively during the day!
How good must it be to have a religion that lets you choose what parts of its beliefs to follow? If you don’t like it don’t follow it, I do not care if they follow all or some, I am stating that it amazes me that it can happen, I am not a believer, I am not a disbeliever , I only select out of it what suits me.. how good is that
I said it in a positive manner Jack. Your comment is somewhat negative. At the end of the day I couldn't give a toss what Muslim's choose to get up to, and neither should you. It's their life (and their after-life).
I notice amnesia that you only change the flaws that suit you like drinking smoking having affairs. But that is the Muslim right of thinking, have this great power of religion but only believe what parts of it you want. What do they call that in the western world? Hypocrites, charlatan, pretender, I’m unsure..
As tallg said …If only all people had the same "live-and-let-live" outlook as you amnesia! Too many people preaching that if you don't follow the one true path then you're as bad as the devil!.
Its been some time since I told u.. your an Angel.. ;-) i think its since the last time i saw you :) :)
Exiled.. good good.. concentrate on work man.. we dont want the lebanese to be of further cause of disturbance for u.. its enough they've ruined the night life pour toi..
I know! Why is it that Bubbles has become the new hang-out for the ex-Garvey's crowd? Surely they should be going to the "sports" bar on the first floor or even Orions, but not bubbles!
I made one sarcastic comment and it got lost on the population...... but I don't have enough space to write about every single Lebanese person I know and their own specific traits. Yes they like to dress up, yes the men like to spend a lot of money to impress women and yes some of them spend money they do not have.....its a bit like saying that Qataris have a fondness for landcrusiers.... not all of them have one but it does seem to be government policy that at the age of 16 they get given the keys to a landcruiser as a right of passage.... lets hope they don't drive them into any of the nightclubs here or we will have dead Lebanese all over the place...
never been to W... really loved Habanos...when the mood is there I really like irish harp...
Found Orion too boring.. but then.. at the end of the day it doesnt matter where I am.. its the ppl i'm with...
so it could be a bunch of lebanese ruining the place, or brits drinking pint after pint, or americans swearing their way thru the beer or Indians dominating the floor with hindi music, as long as i am with my friends.. all of these things wont matter.. but then.. its a matter of perspective.. dont u think?
Clearly Lebanese don't 'ruin places' for themselves. They ruin them for me.
In the same way that bad drivers 'ruin' the roads, stray dogs 'ruin' parks, people talking on mobiles 'ruin' cinemas, people with body odour 'ruin' elevators and so on.
I'm stereotyping. Of course I am. We're talking about groups of people - demographics. It's all one big stereotype. When polls show that Obama has 60% approval and someone says "Americans like Obama"... that's stereotyping.
All I'm saying is I don't want to go to a bar full of fat, middle aged business men puffing away on smelly cigars while seemingly under the illusion that femals find that hot. I also can't stand middle aged, skanky Lebanese women wearing awful (and awfully tight) clothes.
Sure as individuals they may all be the nicest people in the world, but put them all into a bar and I don't find it pleasent.
Clearly the hotel has made the decision that this is the sort of business that it wishes to attract, and I'm fine with that. It's Market Economics 101.
It's the same reason I don't want to go to a bar full of English heavy drinkers putting away pint after pint and getting rowdy while watching the Premier League. I don't find it pleasent.
The Pearl caters to those who like to dance and like that red bull & vodka, show offy, house music, tight clothes, pick up joint atmosphere. If you like that, great, go. If you don't, don't go.
I guess ur right.. but the series of coments that came one after the other from Exiled i guess made me too blind to see the humor behind it.. or else i'd have definitely laughed along like Samaer did.
I think the main drawback as u said is that Clubs are unable to open as standalones if they plan to provide alcohol.. and as long as they are restricted to hotel premises.. then it comes as no surprise that many feature, dress code, couple rule, and so on and so forth..
It's true Loulsy - the clubs are all packed so they've achieved their main aim. I just think it's a shame that Doha hasn't grown and diversified enough to allow different clubs which attract different clientele to be established. Though obviously not being able to sell alcohol outside of hotels makes this very hard.
I think Exiled's distinctly British humour has been lost on some!
Loulsy - if you made those stereotypes about Brits in an amusing way then we'd laugh along with you, because we realise there's an element of truth to them even though we know that not all Brits meet the stereotype. Just as there's an element of truth to the Lebanese stereotype which Exiled used in an amusing manner.
I agree with you 100%.. Each club has a target crowd its aiming for... and each place seems to be doing pretty well since they are all crowded in the weekend.. whether its sky view or pearl (who attract snoby, posing, virtual money spending lebanese) to equally biased C loung to Classy untained Hyat and of course Irish harp and many more
First time i hear that the Lebanese ruin places.. sheesh u guys.. Once again I am no expert in lebanese .. so i guess i was wrong when i said Exiled was stereotyping...
i guess since u and him think the same thing then its 100% true
You seem to be an expert in lebanese.. what can i say.. but hasnt life taught u not to stereotype?!
I mean i could say Brits are snobby, coldfaced, sarcastic uptight ppl but then.. i'd be majorly stereotyping as its not true to all..
As for Pearl.. Rumors say that most ppl there are Arabs (not specifically lebanese) and that u do get arabic music on thursday .. i've been there only on Ministry of Sound events and then the music was pretty much ok..
yes prices are relatively expensive when it comes to drinks.. ridiculously so.. but then.. guess they are targeting a specific genre of ppl..
True Jeans is not allowed for men..
now Sky View La Cigale, while u have many nationalities in there,, it is true that the Majority and lebanese...
now about the Spending Money they dont have.. i really dont know.. once again.. Only Exiled knows that.. i guess its because he's a saint that he can see such things...
Most clubs will tailor their music, ambience, dress code, etc etc in order to attract a certain type of people.
If a club was created that played indie music and allowed people to wear jeans and t-shirts then I'd probably frequent it, but I doubt many others would. And those that did go would probably not spend huge amounts on alcohol.
So most hotels tailor their clubs to attract people who'll spend lots of money, which in Doha appears to result in Lebanese being the main clientele.
Alternatively they may aim to attract a huge number of people, who will spend a reasonable amount of money. The result being the same - they make a large profit.
When the W opened I visited 2 bars and 2 restaurants and thought that each was okay. Not amazing, not bad, but okay.
But after dealing with that awful woman on the door I would now never return to the hotel. So despite all the hard work and professionalism put in by the staff in the other restaurants and bars, I will now take all my business elsewhere.
Thankfully the Grand Hyatt opened at the same time. The restaurants are far superior and the bar is much more pleasent. I've been back the Hyatt several times to both The Grill and the Thai restaurant and will continue to frequent both.
If the W wants to attract a certain sort of person, so be it. I'm not one of them, and I don't miss the place.
Like I said, I'm glad all the Lebanese are in just a couple of places, because it stops them from also ruining the truly nice places, such as the Hyatt, for the rest of us.
You are right about some of their selectiveness, which in my opinion is uncalled for most times. In fact, I think that people should actually tell management because in most cases they don't know.
When I went to the W, there were two women at the door (the one who was rude because she didn't look welcoming, seemed to be Lebanese) I wasn't stopped, probably because I looked like I didn't give a damn lol.
That being said, the W staff were ALL friendly, except for her. (I kind of wish she gets fired).
Don't let people who think they are suprior (no matter where they are from) win. They need to realize that they can't get away with acting a certain way.
Except - Firstly the decor and music aren't to my taste, so why would I want to go. Perhaps they play music that appeals to Lebanese people as a way of attracting them? Who knows.
And secondly, as someone pointed out above, going 'to' a club is quite a different thing from going 'into' a club.
The people on the door are selective about who gets in, and who doesn't. I fought my way in to the bar at the W to meet some female friends inside and I found the whole experience humiliating and patronizing. Needless to say I won't be setting foot in the bar again.
People like me aren't wanted there, and I don't want to be there. Fine, I'm over it. I don't relish the idea of sitting in a bar full of Lebanese people, I'd rather go somewhere classy.
guess what though? If people stopped saying "It's a Lebanese bar" and actually WENT it wouldn't be a 'Lebanese bar' anymore.
As for the W hotel. I went there three days ago, I saw so many friends of different nationalities, especially Europeans. The place JUST opened, so how did it become a 'Lebanese venue'?
Just get up and go! Don't look at the people around you that don't matter, surround yourself with people you care about and have fun! Life's too short to keep complaining!
It's another of the 'Lebanese' bars. Sure, other people occassionally go, but on the whole the bulk of the patrons are Lebanese, and management seems to want to keep it that way.
The other Lebanese venues are La Cigale and the W hotel.
I'm kind of glad all the Lebanese people socialise in the same venues, rather than spreading them evenly throughout town. There's only so many older women who have squeezed themselves into skin tight jeans, plastered their faces with make up and piled on 30cm of hair on their heads that I want to see in an evening.
And don't get me started on fat men who refuse to button up their shirts and who have soaked their thining hair in engine oil for that slick, greasy look.
If only all people had the same "live-and-let-live" outlook as you amnesia! Too many people preaching that if you don't follow the one true path then you're as bad as the devil!
For what it's worth, I think The Pearl is possibly one of the worst clubs I've ever been to.
@jackfrost, do you follow every rule of your religion? Why are you so concerned with what Muslims do? We're not the borg. Every individual is independent and has their own flaws.
The Pearl Lounge is 3000QR membership for 6 months, if they accept you as a member.ladies enter free every night, except for event nights Any nationality is accepted. The dress code is smart casual, no sportswear but smart jeans are allowed. Members are given preference and you can only enter as a none member if you are with a lady or enter with a member.
The music is predominantly house music, but with an arabic night on a wednesday, a ladies night on a monday and a once monthly international R'n'B night.
Its true its not easy to get in if you are male, thats why you see all these comments from disgruntled men who cant get in and then put up shit comments.
PS: Im a black card member and I love the place, because i can afford to???????
exiled is not being very truthfull. . I've gone in. My friends have gone in and they are from the following nationalities (Australia, England, Pakistan, Indonesia, China, Japan, Singapore, and Kuwait)
LOL @ exiledsaint. what can we do? Lebanese are born posers with ultimate goal in life is to try to impress others! with time you'll learn to have a laugh at it everytime you witness someone like that..
The club in the W hotel is okay. A bit small and drinks are expensive, I think $25 is the average.. the last time I went... but still the ratio of ogling men is the same. Sigh.
however if you do go to these places it seems to be full of posing lebanese people spending money they don't have to impress people that don't care about them....
There was no rule but these are the types of establishments you find a large lebanese population.
i dont understand this...!!! u go to such places to loosen up and have a nice time, just b ur self with ur near and dear 1s, right??? and then some stupid snobish woman/man at the door doesnt like the way u r dressed and they refuse u an entry!!! that sucks!!!
i think this kinda stupid "rules" is applicable only where this nationality of ppl hang around; similar to Sky Lounge (La Cigale).
has gone the same way. They've even gone to the trouble of putting a Lebanese lady on the front door and if she doesn't like you, she tells you its fully booked....

Lebanese.....Essex and Beruit do have so much in common.. so do the nightclubs. Full of posers acting well above their station in life...

It always amazes me how muslims can not drink. but these bars are so full of them,,,,,say no more..
It is always the lost that need my guidance

I don't like the Pearl.
The club in the W hotel is okay. A bit small and drinks are expensive, I think $25 is the average.. the last time I went... but still the ratio of ogling men is the same. Sigh.
The internet is our revenge machine
however if you do go to these places it seems to be full of posing lebanese people spending money they don't have to impress people that don't care about them....
There was no rule but these are the types of establishments you find a large lebanese population.
i dont understand this...!!! u go to such places to loosen up and have a nice time, just b ur self with ur near and dear 1s, right??? and then some stupid snobish woman/man at the door doesnt like the way u r dressed and they refuse u an entry!!! that sucks!!!
i think this kinda stupid "rules" is applicable only where this nationality of ppl hang around; similar to Sky Lounge (La Cigale).
i went to pearl lounge last thursday and saw a good number of non lebanese! i guess the above stated rule to enter was not very accurate.
i was at the W (C Lounge) last nite. the lady at the door just asked if we'd made a reservation.. guess thats the trick then. book a table and get in.
pricing pretty similar to the Pearl Lounge although the people are not 80% lebenese.
i've been to the pearl often and the music has changed positively. few arabic tracks unlike before where you had a good hour or so
but baldrick2dogs you're not lebanese are you? :P
has gone the same way. They've even gone to the trouble of putting a Lebanese lady on the front door and if she doesn't like you, she tells you its fully booked....
No jeans allowed.
Even residents at the hotel are not allowed in if improperly dressed.
Drinks are way expensive.
Music is deafening.
And yes, I've only ever seen Lebanese in there too!
if you are a lady you can get in for free
guys pay 150 or 200 at the door
on thursdays it gets crowded so space is primarily reserved for members
hope this helps
that's so stupid of a law (if true)
to get in. No other nationalities allowed.
